Anyone here familiar with scanners? How fast are they these days?

I'll be working on a huge project soon which will involve scanning thousands and thousands of pages (photos, illustrations, etc.) into my PC. Unfortunately I've never owned a scanner before so I don't know what features to really look for when shopping for one. So what should I be concerned with when it comes to picking a good scanner? Also how long does it normally take for a scanner to scan a page?

Well, there are a couple of factors to consider for the speed of the scanner. First is what resolution are you scanning in. Usually, higher resolution scans take a bit longer than lower resolution, but depending on the quality of the scan you're looking for, your miles may vary. Second, do you want to scan in color or B&W. You can probably guess that color will take a bit longer to scan as well. Although I haven't been in the market for a scanner in a while, scanner these days are much faster due to the fact that most to all of them utilize the speed of USB. Just do a search on Google for scanner reviews and I'm sure you'll find some good articles to go on. Good luck!

I suggest looking at the Epson Expression series of scanners. I have used this 1600 series to scan in old patient records (for a total of about 150,000 to 200,000 pages) without any major problems. They are really nice scanners are well worth their money.
