Mudding is basic gaming in an online world. Everything is pretty much written in ascii-so you can run it on a 486. It is basically a cross between nethack and the old Zork styled adventure games. The major difference being that the worlds are populated by real people, as well as ?mobs?. Although the graphics look like crap (it?s text based generally)-the game play is often superb. A lot of these ?Muds? have been around for years and are very sophisticated. The mud I play on has clans, player killing, heroing etc Another bonus is the social aspect-being able to get online and meet new people. The mud I play on is in New Zealand-but is inhabited b Kiwi?s, Aussies, Americans, Canadians and somewhat dodgy Swedes.
In recent times the number of Muds has been declining- basically because of their lack of visual appeal and because of the time it takes to understand them. They really are fun though
