Anyone here ever had gallstones or gallbladder issues?

Yes. Had gallbladder removed a few years ago. Doctors kept diagnosing it as an ulcer. Finally, an emergency room visit in the middle of the night discovered the problem.

As BDawg mentioned, extreme pain under the right rib cage. The pain also started right below the sternum and felt like extreme heartburn up to the top of the sternum. Pain wrapped around to my back and there was no way to get comfortable. The last bout took two shots of demoral (have no idea how to spell that) and the pain was still there. Removing the gallbladder took care of the pain and also the heartburn that I had been having for quite some time. However, there are side effects (eat a fatty meal and be prepared to run, not walk, to the restroom! 😱 )

Yes, gallstones. It was a sudden attack on my lower abdominal area, that started out feeling like a bad case of gas that kept getting worse and worse. Had to go to ER where they gave me a shot, and sent me home with some really great pills, and an appointment to the gallbladder doctor the next day.

I'm on Questran for the rest of my life since my problem isn't just with fatty meals.

I had mine removed last year (05/2005). I have a few side effects. Some foods set off problems but nothing compared to the pain of a gallbladder attack.

had mine removed last year...the pain was BAD....like the posters above it's like severe heartburn...but when I mean severe...I mean SEVERE. I was throwing up bile in the emergency room. Not sure what drug they gave me but it had to be strong. I had emergency surgery because of the intense pain I was having.

Now....the food situation gets interesting. It's true...if you eat some fatty foods that don't agree with you...you better be damn close to a bathroom...cuz it could get ugly fast.

In terms of pain, I've been told that it's worse than childbirth by a lot but slightly better than kidney stones.

My wife had her's removed a couple of years ago... had all the symptoms mentioned above.

Unfortunately, it took us 5 trips to the Dr and 3 trips to the ER before they would rule out ulcer/acid reflux/ect and order an ultrasound.

During the ultrasound they found a virtural "gravel pit" in her gallbladder and associated tract.

They removed it and her problems went away....although she does have issues with some foods still...but nothing as bad as it was.

for the past couple of years i have had occasional pain right under my lower ribcage on my right side. i have had my doc look at it and all she did was poke around. i hope its not the gallbladder.

Same here...though I haven't been to the doctor for it yet. Seems to only really bother me if I drink too much coke/soda/pop.

my mother and wife have both had their gall bladders removed

it is fairly common for womans to have the gall bladder removed

Same experience here with the pain described before. I too had problems with greasy bowel movements after eating fatty food. It isn't so bad anymore, I think it took my body a couple of years to adjust.

The pain was the most intense pain I had ever felt before. I thought it was bad gas at first but it kept coming back. Went to my doctor and he didn't even do an examination. Just gake me Zantac for an ulcer. 3 days later I was in the ER for intense pain. They gave me some pain killers through an IV and a pill for ulcers without doing any kind of exam. Next day The pain was back again so I went to a gastroenterologist(sp?) and he looked at my eyes and saw that I was jaundiced, stuck his finger up my bum and shoved a camera down my throat. He discovered there was no ulcer and scheduled an ultrasound the next day. Ultrasound showed gallstones. Was in the hospital 2 days later and had my gallbladder removed.

Wow, a lot of people seemed to have trouble getting diagnosed.

I had the pains for a year before they got bad. I always just thought it was heartburn or something. Then, I got them so bad one night that I threw up everything in my stomach and couldn't do anything but curl up into a ball. I went to studen heath services first thing the next day.

A Resident examined me, felt my chest and stomach area, and said, "If you were 30 years older and female, I'd say you have gallstones." He scheduled me for an ultrasound that day and I had surgery a week later.

Doesn't suprise me at all. Too many dr's are nothing but pill pushers looking to sell more of the pharm co's drugs. My(ex) dr did nothing to examine me after hearing my complaints. Took him all of 2 minutes to write a prescription and shoo me out the door.
