Anyone here ever done VOLUNTEER work before?

Hi guys, I was wondering if anybody has done volunteer work in order for your college application to look good. If so, I would like to know whether it matters if you go through your school or whether you just go straight to the volunteer agency and volunteer, or does it even matter? Reason why I'm asking is because I don't want to have done all this work and then my school of choice doesn't recognize it as legitimate.
 
Yeah, did lots of volunteer work.

Tons. It is very rewarding.

As far as your college application? Gee, I always thought you did it to help others.

If you want to volunteer speak to a local united way agency. People may poo-poo it, but they will gladly accept your help.

I am doing it to help others but I also want to get some credit for it, yaknowwhadimean.
 
Well then call them up. they'll put you to work.

"Hi, I'd like to volunteer"

-edit- building houses, painting, taking care of the neighborhood, getting lunch for people in need, etc.

Oh, I did lotsa things...been going there for 3 summers(2 while I was in high school, and last summer after my freshman in college).

I helped in greeting people in ER, getting supplies and doing light paperwork in the walk-in center, wheeling poeple out to the door after their stay in the hospital, etc. It was fun. I would have wasted my time on TV or PC games if I had not volunteered. It looks good on your resume and it also feels good helping people. 🙂
