i'm contemplating trying it out next week on vacation. i've always had interest in it but never tried it. it's pretty damn expensive too. it'll be like $350 for the 3.5 hour lesson, and the first 1/2 of it you aren't even in the water, you are on land learning about how it works and trying to control the kite on land.

anyone ever tried it before? did you feel it was worth the initial money spent to get up and running?

I would do it. Sounds fun. Seems like one of those things you probably wont' do more than once.

I have a few dual line stunt kites and they will pull me across the grass if the winds are high enough. A friend let me fly his four line airfoil that could be hovered in place and that was a blast. I think that's what they use for kiteboarding.

Kite buggying would be more my style, though, since kiteboarding seems like it would take strong legs and more athleticism than I have left in me at my age. Any sport you can do sitting down gets a thumbs up from me.

Funny, I just bought a used starter kite for my girlfriend. It's really popular around here (rural region in Canada), we have a few world-class athletes, and we hosted one of the event for the Kiteboard Pro World Tour.
