Anyone here ever climb Mt. Everest?

Haven't done Everest but I'm planning a trip to do Mount Elbrus in summer 2006. It is one of the seven summits.

A friend wants to do Kilimanjaro together because he lives in Tanzania and has done it before.

My overall goal would be Mt Vinson just because its so beautiful--Everest looks like a deathtrap thanks 😛

Oh and since you're pledging to ATOT that you are going to do Everest eventually--a heads up is to focus on cardio cardio and more cardio. Lots of endurance is needed for that sort of thing and for your body to adapt to the climate and oxygen.

Until you can do something like a triathalon and finish it under average time, I wouldn't bother with Everest 😉

hahaha this thread is pretty funny 🙂

anyways, i heard everest is pretty dirty. it is littered w/ oxygen canisters and what not. I read about people climbing it and it sounds pretty gruesome, and pretty easy to die up there.

I'm making a statement to ATOT. I do not know when it will happen (I need to get into better shape and do a bunch of training) but I promise that I will at least attempt to reach the summit. I'll take a picture and I'll hold a sign that says "ATOT" for proof 🙂

I don't think you realize how much training and MONEY it requires to climb Mt. Everest. The people who attempt it have many years of experience climbing smaller mountains. They are in amazing physical condition. They spend tens of thousands of dollars. And a large percentage of them STILL never make it to the top. Some die. It's not something you do on a whim.

wait time out... this is a parody thread right?

You aren't seriously saying you want to climb the tallest mountain in the world to prove your manhood are you? I suggest professional therapy STAT!

I mean hell why stop with Everest... have you swam the english channel, or won a gold medal in the olympics... because anyone who hasn't is a pansy.

This is not something I'm joking about and I will not attempt it until I'm ready. If that takes 20 more years, that's what it will take. I decided this was something I wanted to do a couple of years ago.

I am not doing it to prove my manhood. I'm doing it because I want something that few have done before. I have a feeling that if I wasn't doing it for myself, I'd never make it.

I guess I understand where you're coming from... it just seems so... extreme.

Find the guy that climbed it and beat the crap out of him that would prove your manhood. If you have to climb the worlds tallest moutain to prove your manhood go for it. Is she going to climb it to prove her womanhood?

Hmmm....I think she'd be proving her MANhood too. 😛
