anyone here ever break a bone in their foot

hey guys, broke my left calcaneus. it's pretty bad, 8 to 10 pieces.

so far, all i've gathered are if i don't get the surgery, my bones will not heal right. i'll be able to walk, but snowboarding, climbing, or even standing on my foot for long period of time is out of the question.

if i do get the surgery, there's a 5% to 10% chance I'll lose feeling in parts of my foot right by the heel all and maybe all the way to my little toe.

does anyone here have any experiences they'd like to share? it seems like a easy choice. I'm 25, and would love to be able to climb half dome someday. or keep snowboarding, but man, that 10% is really scaring me.

I feel for you, just broke the big toe on my right foot. Of course, I'm walking and working despite that, so quit your b!tching! 😛

Actually, your break sounds just a little bit ( 😉 ) worse than mine. Good luck with surgery, it sounds like that is your only viable option.

and what if you can't feel your foot? i'd give up feeling in parts of my foot to be able to do stuff, no experience, but easy choice for sure

I broke my toe so bad that the bone connecting my foot to my toe broke in half. It was pretty funny just looking at my toe dangling being held on only by skin and muscle. I went through surgery for it as well. All I have to say about that is you seriously gain alot of respect for crippled people who cant walk because it really sucks!!

Well said. It is not unusual to experience numbness after most surgeries.

I broke the bone that goes down the side of your foot on the pinky toe side...forgot the name of it. Had to have surgery. 8 weeks later I was hoopin' it up again my senior year in HS.

thanks for the input. I guess I'm just scared. I barely even catch a cold and all of a sudden I need surgery. it's just a whole new experience. and believe me, I already have much respect for anyone who has lost a limb or has to use a wheelchair.

it just totally sucks, I've taken 8' to 10' falls and not a scratch, a less than 2' fall needs surgery, just kinda pissed. thanks again for the inputs.
