Anyone here drinks wine for taste? Which one is your favorite?

Favorites are Rosemount Shiraz, Black Opal Shiraz, Rosemount Shiraz/Cab blend, virtually any malbec, montepulciano d'abruzzo, rioja.

Full-bodied reds are my favorite. Whites are usually too wimpy for my palate.
You should check out a bottle of Amarone if you like REALLY full-bodied reds. That stuff is amazing. The 1990 Tommassi will set you back about 50 beans if you can find it, but it's worth every penny.

Red wine sets off a pounding in my head like the wardrums of the natives, so how about a fine white wine, like Mad Dog 20-20? 😀

I've been dabbling in Oregon wine of late (especially since it's cheap and really good).

Sokol Blosser Chardonnay and Evolution are both very tasty (a blend of several grapes...similar to a Gewurtztraminer)

King Estate Reserver Pinot Noir is an excellent, earthy medium-bodied red. Nice with beef or pork.

I also recently visited Napa and tasted several wines by Cakebread Cellars that were amazing. Their chardonnay is very nice and their Three Sisters Cabernet is truly amazing, although expensive and hard to find.

The question on all our minds is: Do the wardrums drown out the voices in your head? If so, maybe red wine is a good thing for you.... 😛

If you'd like a very good wine for little money try the Australian Shiraz. They are a very fine red wine and are being brought into the country cheap in order to break into the market.

I don't care for white wine at all and usually drink a Merlot or a Cabernet. These Shirazes (sp?), though, are very good.

Turning Leaf is a great cheapie wine to have with dinner!

I don't know if I've had any wine better than a fine Riesling though.

Anyone tried any of Folie a Deux's Zins? They are the best bottles of wine I've ever had. You can snag one for about $30.

Random fact...Folie a Deux means two people having the same dream (in French). It's a Cal winery though.

Stag's Leap Merlot...

Stag's Leap wines are waaaay overpriced IMO (you pay a lot for the name).

I'm a Frog's Leap fan myself. 🙂

Ok...if you don't have the means to get Stag's Leap, I'll give you the wine buyer's tip of the day. Try HawkCrest. It's bottled by the Stag's Leap Winery and is usually a third of the price or less. It's considered "reserve" wine so it's practically the same.

Yep, Turning Leaf is a good and inexpensive start. Not a lot of people like Riesling because it's not an oaked wine. I do like it though

I think most people don't drink Riesling because they've "heard" that it's not good. I think everyone should do themselves a big favor and try it. I guarantee, nothing goes better with fish, seafood in general, and chicken, like a glass or two of lightly chilled Riesling!
😀
