I have a friend who is a software engineer (I'm in hardware) and has tons of requests from people for him to set up their small businesses with networks and databases. Does anyone in here have any experience with this? We're thinking of starting a business together to take on these jobs, but we have NO idea what people typically charge for this type of work. Obviously the network and database would need continuous support, would we have our clients sign an contract for support? What would we charge for an year to support say.. a small dr or dentist's office?

Anyone know a 'better' forum to ask this question? I'm sure threre is a great IT network administrators forum out there somewhere but I"m not sure.. I mostly hang out here 🙂

The typical rate for the types of BUSINESS services you mentioned is usually around $75 to $150 per hour. Your clientele, experience, guaranteed response times, etc. will affect the rate somewhat.

You'll have to decide what to charge for a Maintenance Agreement.
