I got my license about 10 months ago, I was 20 then and i'm still 20. I haven't driven since i passed the driving test thingy. I don't want any part of driving anywhere, it's crazy out there. I don't know how so many people do it. I'm thankful to be alive after all my driving tests, my driving teacher was a dick so i'm lucky I passed.

I just don't have whatever part of the brain is needed to drive. There's way too much to try and focus on... Signs, other cars, road lines, traffic lights, it's insane. I know if i'm on the road i could easily injure/kill myself or other people, which is why i want to stay out of the driver's seat. But, I understand the benefits of being able to drive. It's going to be hard to go without driving the rest of my life. I could ride a bicycle, but it's not much safer, and still limits my traveling area. Even knowing all that, I still want no part of driving. I'll bug other people to drive me somewhere if i need to.

My parents are trying to force me to take lessons again, I kept telling them clearly not to sign me up but they decided to drop another $300 on lessons anyways, which i'm not going to go to.

But enough about me, is there anyone else here who chooses not to drive? I'm just curious, i doubt there are many. I know it doesn't bother 99% of people.

I've been driving since I was 15. Don't know what I'd do without a car.

I walk to work and only use my car for entertainment and shopping. All of the bars and clubs are in walking distance. I think I use a tank and a half's worth of gas a month

STFU.
And everyone else don't feed the troll.

OP I know some people that didn't get their license until they were 25 because they were scared to death. Don't feel bad, it might even end up being cheaper in the long run.

I don't believe you. No one is that much of a misfit.

My city has one of the best mass transit system in the entire US, but I choose to drive my car everyday 'cause I don't wanna wait for the bus, then squeeze with the smelly people on the bus for 40+ mins.

I don't know anyone that refuses to drive. I have zero issues with it, since I've been driving since I was half past 15, and I'm coming up on 20 right quick now. For the past year n some change I've been commuting about 30 miles each way at least 3 days a week. There's no reliable public transportation that would be able to get me to where I need to go(school) and back on time for my classes. I've got no choice to drive.

Even if there was a good public transit system in place, I probably wouldn't use it. It's just too nice to be able to leave and go where ever you want, whenever you want.

You'll get used to driving if you do it more. Start on the side streets and stuff, just get used to being behind the wheel. And be thankful you don't have to drive a stickshift if you're already feeling overwhelmed :)

Op, there is something called practice makes perfect. Secondly, how do you pick up friends without a car if they're across the city? If they have to pick you up all the time, don't you think that would be a bit awkward?

No, don't do what your parents want with lessons, rip off. Train yourself, but read the manual several times.

VeggieFrog has chosen not to drive. She will be 22yrs old next week. It is easy to not drive in the UK but I think once she gets back to the USA, she will get a license because... here, she will need a car.

Unless you live in Manhattan or are in college and live and work on or near campus then there is no excuse not to learn how to drive. You do not have to drive on a daily basis if you have alternate transportation, but it is a useful and necessary skill in the USA. I had several different jobs that required me to drive company vehicles before age 21.

Now OP if you are 20 years old and not driving and still living at home with mom and dad then your parents want you to drive b/c they are sick of driving you everywhere and want to get you the hell out of the house.

I don't like to drive into Manhattan and usually end up taking the train or a bus (I hate the traffic, tolls and the parking costs).

However, I usually drive for areas with less traffic...

If I had to commute an hour for work everyday and there was a good train system from my place I would definitely take the train over driving....

My girlfriend has a license but does not drive. She has not owned a car for a long time. She lives near works so she walks or buses it. She sure saves a pile of money ever year.

I do drive but usually only commute to work. I live in an urban environment and can walk everywhere.

I you don't want to drive more power to you. Judging by how bad divers are were I live I wish more people felt the way that you do.

If you feel like this, then it's definitely a good idea to never drive. Hell, half of the people who do drive shouldn't be driving.

If you live in a urban area with public transportation then I could see you not needing to drive. But for normal folks, that is not the case.

I have driven about 2 times since I received my DL. I don't think I even know how to drive anymore even though I just renewed by license by mail last month.

I live 2 blocks from work, so there's no point in spending $500 a month on a car when it's cheaper to take a taxi if I need to go somewhere.

I like driving too much to give it up until it is too expensive for me to handle. I'm that friend that is always driving people around. It might also be because I have a pretty car. Also I live in a relatively small town, our largest roads are 2 lanes in each direction. But put me in a big city.. god I HATE driving. Always having to worry about which lane you have to be in while watching all the idiots around you.
