Iraq was actually a great place to be in the 1980s. It was very well advanced for an Arab nation.

What happened? Saddam attack Kuwait, Sanctions and the economy that was flourishing dropped like a rock from the sky.

Ah, actually during the 1980s (well 1980-1988) was the Iran-Iraq War which cost approximately 2+ million people their lives while chemical and nerve gasses were used by both countries (this was when Saddam gassed that entire Kurd village). :brokenheart:

Iraq was fairly advanced during the 70's, but it stood out as a secular nation in the Middle East and relatively advanced in respect to gender equality, education, and healthcare. Too bad 25+ years of war have taken such a toll.

well I gotta get going. Just wanted to appologize if I offended anyone with my OP. A year is a LONG deployment and right here near the end of it can be a stressful time.

Peace Out AT

So, in your own words, are we winning or losing the war on terror?

Hard to say really. There are so many "bad" people in the world ready to take whatever actions necessary that supports their political or religous views that I'm not sure we will ever "win." but . . . things are starting to look better, at least for Iraq. It's kinda taken a turn for the worse here recently, but the sadam trial hasn't seen nearly as much violence as the preliminary elections back in january did. Over all, I'd say we are winning.

Sorry. I didn't mean to come across as an ass 'wanderica'. It's good to hear that you have a positive outlook on the future situation even with all the horrible acts happening every day...

You need to post that over in P&N 😛

Ends don't justify the means (or lies).
