As in Adult Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder?

There's a lot of buzz about doctors now diagnosing ADHD in adults, but I was wondering if anyone has any clear information on what's involved in testing for it, and some of the metrics on testing (i.e. for all those tested, what percentage test positive for Adult ADHD vs. negative? What is the success rate in diagnosis?)

WebMD has information on some of the drugs prescribed for Adult ADHD but not on the actual mental testing behind the diagnosis.

yes, I have been tested. It involves an hour or two with a shrink asking you many, many questions, which are weighted and scored.

If you're really curious, why not see or ask a professional?

It could just be a bunch of bull. I know that there is some controversy about some new diagnoses. Take PMDD for instance. The man who "discovered" the illness coincidently owned a patent on a drug that could be used to treat it. The drug patent was about to expire (it had previously been used to treat something else), but if a new use for the drug is found, the patent can be extended.

BEAUTIFUL first post GroundZero

This used to be my attitude by I am intrigued by what drugs can do for some of these folks. I accidentally discovered that a coworker of mine is using both Paxil-CR and Ritalin. Like GZ, I thought only "fvck-ups and asshats" used this sh!t but this guy is one of the hardest workers I've ever met. In fact, he puts the rest of the office to shame with his dedication, attention to detail, timeliness etc. (and we're an office full of consultants working late hours.) I'm wondering how much the drugs are a factor in his success??

He doesn't know that I know...and I want to ask him about it but I don't want him to know I've been snooping in his things (I wasn't really snooping anyway, I just saw it in his overnighter when we both went out-of-town on a gig.)

I thought I'd get in under the wire with a predictable ADHD joke but it seems - wait what are we talking about?

You actually believe that anybody with any discernable intelligence actually takes what he has to blather about into consideration? He's just looking for the attention here that he can't find in the real world.

Frankly unless someone has a PHD in Medicine all that's said should be ignored.

I personally will be going in to be tested in a little while...numerous reasons to my actions, but I guess my mom'll be happier knowing that I've been "tested"
