alot of ppl claim they go 4x4ing their suvs, but driving on the gravel in front of your drive way doesnt count..I dont mind suvs as long as they are put to use.like towing or 4x4ing

boone, OPEC has recently cut production, but late fall early winter they were increasing production like crazy and oil prices were still increasing, our excessive need is more to blame than just OPEC
one last plug for suvs, my dad's '88 trooper was bad ass, it wasn't like one of these luxury lexus and bmw crap things, we went offroading, it carried huge loads of cement and sand, and we got over 250,000 miles out of it, that was a damn good vehicle

Wow, and I thought my "smokers are litterbugs" thread got a lot of hate mail going. The way I see it is it's a matter of CHOICE. If you can afford an SUV and either want or need one then buy it, there are no laws against it. The increased fuel cost is essentially a tax for the SUV owner (I should know I live in CT, the highest gas tax in the country). And to the people who think that SUV's cause high gas prices, go take an economics course. When refinery's cut their output by 25%, what do you think that does to the national fuel supply?

The people who piss and moan about SUV drivers being the only bad drivers on the road should realize that a bad driver is a bad driver is a bad driver, it doesn't matter what they drive. I have an Explorer (V8) and you wouldn't believe the number of Civics, Volvos, Saturns, pickups, vans, etc that I have to avoid day in and day out; you would think they could actually see a 4000 lb vehicle but nooooo.

If you really want to find out how bad the general driving public is, then go ride a motorcycle around for a while. You'll never want to leave the safety of your home again.

I just don't like how many are out there now, everytime I park at the store(whether 200 miles away) one has to park next to me..OR two, makes pulling out hard in my little Honda I can'tafford it(Accord that is)
There is something going on with BAD drivers now a days(whether too many people on Earth now,or plain stupid!)
I am hating to drive by being an offensive driver(can't be a defensive one, insurance too high from hubby)Even though he drives a rig.
Boy do I see alot of dumb 4-wheelers(cars/SUV's) when I go on trips with him...lol!

If anyone is interested in fuel efficiency standards, and is a bit bored right now, here's a link for a radio show discussion on fuel economy. It's Real Audio. Click it if you want something to listen to for the next hour while you're surfing.

BTW, Minnesota public radio is the best public radio I've found in my admittedly limited travels through the US. It's a good discussion today. the show was Midday. The guest was very objective today. The RA link will be available for a week, until next Tuesday's show replaces it.

This is great I love when people try to justify opression.

Well only if they use it for off roading.
If they have to carry alot of passangers.
If they tow a boat.

If you are conserned with that you should only be allowed to drive civics and escorts and the like. If it doesn't get 40 MPG you can't drive it.

Hey folks FREEDOM. Do most people that drive excursions really need it? of course not. Hell most people don't need anything more than a motorcycle. Mopeds for evryone!

If I want to pay the huge gas and insurance cost (along with a $45,000 MSRP) I should be allowed to.

Or perhaps You shouldn't be allowed to buy anything faster than a 1GHz because thats all you really NEED!

I am a bag boy in a yuppie supermarket. I see the things all the time. The thing I hate most is when some yuppie 22 yr old climbs into her huge "Eddie Bauer Edition" Tank she has with her one little 2 yr old kid. I put 2 bags of grocery's in there and that's about all she's toting except for a few toys of the kid. She is so small she can hardly see over the wheel and when she backs out she almost hits another car that is parked. She drives off past the store not paying any attention to any of the customers walking across the parking lot. For some reason that monster she is driving means all driving laws don't apply to her and she has the right away. She swerves around this one guy rather than stopping and heads off to the wild blue to join the rest of her SUV driving yuppie friends. This is only one story that I can remember, and yes it's true. I see stuff like this everyday. IMO you can drive what you want to, but if you drive like that you can take the bus. Oh yeah, for most people SUV's are useless.

f!ck SUVs
I reguarly dream of a Civic Si Vtec with 18inch racing wheels.
Every now and then vtec 5th gen preludes haunt my unconscious states.
Once in a while tweaked eclispes with body kits float through.
I still am waiting for my dad to lemme drive his 57 porche convertible tho :)
Make driving fun. Buy a car that can drive.

Yikes! I wasn't expecting this great a response. I will say that I am not against SUVs totally, just the ones that serve exactly zero purpose. If you live in the Canadian wildernessor in an area of rough going, then I am not referring to you when I say I am anti-SUV. Ok, I be quiet now.

I've really enjoyed reading the responses here.

So for the anti-SUV croud, the best anyone has come up with is that you shouldn't buy an SUV if you're not going to use it to it's fullest capacity.

Everyone else here that owns an econobox, did you drive to work today with an empty back seat? If it's a two-seater, do you always drive with a passenger next to you? Unless you carpool every mile that you drive, you're not using your vehicle to it's fullest capacity either. And if you are a super-efficient granola in a carpool, my hat's off to you, as you're helping average out the cost of gas when I go to fill up my 30 gallon tank.

I can't do anything for you in regards to bad drivers, but I think it's really hypocritical to complain about someone else taking advantage of their own ability to buy an excessive vehicle, just because you can't or won't, or don't think it a justified 'purpose'.

Are you just jealous?

I just don't get why anyone would even be bothered about how another person uses their vehicle.

What difference does it make if the 4-wheel-drive feature never gets used?
Does it cost you, or hinder you in any way?
waaa waaa waaa waaa waaa

It seems it all comes down to people wanting to forces others to be/think just like them, and aren't very open to people thinking their own way, and liking vehicles different than their own.

I'd really hate to seem some of the people here in a position of power.
That's how oppression happens.
