Anyone here a Mason?

The Masons here own a building downtown above a store. There's weird signs on their building and you can't see them unless you're looking for them (like I said, it's upstairs/out of view). Anyway, they have 3 lights on this building as well. The lights are small and also up and out of view. Sometimes they have one or a combination of them lit. Very weird.

my dad was a master mason. i have all of his stuff and a really cool poster that is so full of symbolism that sometimes i just stare at it. when he died he had a masonic funeral.

Neat. Can you send us a picture of that poster?

My grandmother was a Mason, for whatever reason. I think she just liked being social and got bored of the people in the neighborhood.

women cant be masons

edit: at my lodge

I've met 4 masons that I know of, and with all 4 had very serious discussions about what thier practices are. 2 of which were a couple of the nicest guys I think I've ever met. We talked for hours on the subject (over the course of a few weeks). They even told me things they weren't "supposed" to tell me. I have a huge amount of respect for these guys and the organization they were representing.

The other 2 masons i met couldn't have been more arrogent, rude, and racist (they hated white people with a passion). I also talked with these guys for several hours and a couple different occasions, but these were much more confrontational, heated arguments. I can truthfully say I haven't met anyone as stupid as those two. These guys told me that "heaven is going to be like star trek". NO JOKE. As in we are going to be on a ship (1500milesx1500miles) floating through space and we are going to be very organized. BTW the 1500x1500 mile ship is the middle star in Orion's belt (the constalation) just in case you were wondering. I don't feel like these guys were representing what masons actually "believe"?

It's somewhat different from a fraternity because it's more of a "classic" secret society. You don't go to rushes and then choose to plegde - they choose you, and they do not advertise themselves. I always wanted to start a secret society in school but never had the time 🙂

Within any organization there are idiots. However, one of the tenets that you agree to follow is you will never speak ill-will towards your brother (fellow mason) and you will never testify. It's mainly about comradory.

I'm 1/2 black and black masons are few and far between. Most are older white lads. Generally good people though.

masons...hmm, the masonic lodge is for sale in my hometown. It's about 6000 sq ft, lots of class oak woodworking and stuff. $97k

my wife wants to buy it and live in it
I think we're going to go look at it tomorrow

Reading this thread makes me shake my head at how humans shun that they do not understand.

I am a Master Mason and AASR 32*. You do not know about Masonry unless you are a Mason yourself. I like how people say we "worship" items or signs. We do not. Only religion involved is you must believe in a higher being, ANY higher being to start your apprenticeship. I've been to several of the degrees as they were performed and don't remember people worshipping anything. If you look for a reason to hate something, you will always find something to hate.

From what I see, it's generally just a bunch of people who created a secret society. I'm not quite sure of what they do, but it's generally a lot of positive things, like community service. If they're not doing anything illegal, hurting themselves or anyone else, and are helping the community, what's not to like?

EDIT:
It seems a lot like the KKK socially, but without all the vileness, and with a lot of positive aspects. It's a secret society; however, instead of hurting people because they're different, they help the needy. I read about things that they've done from time to time, and I honestly can't see why anyone would object to anyone trying to help sick children. I'm not a mason myself, but they seem like a nice bunch.
If only Freemasonry had caught on instead of the Klan, the world would be a much better place, if you ask me.
