Anyone here a Mason?

Dude, my friend is seriously a Mason, and his dad, and his dads dad and so on, hes acutally realted to George awshington (albeit very distantly), who was also a mason.

There are tons of masonic lodges in MD thats why I asked. Its not a cult or a religion, so im trying to find out exactly what they do there.

Masonry isn't anything weird. It's very much like a fraternity (the intiation ceremonies in frats stem from masonry). There are codes of conduct they promise to abide by, words and phrases you memorize, etc. They teach you about going through the different stages of your life (infancy, childhood, youth, adult). The codes of conduct I mentioned include things like being serviceable and kind to others, living a moral and clean life, etc.

However, it'll be hard-pressed to get much information from a Mason in specifics...part of their promise is not to disclose information to the unintiated. It is a wonderful brotherhood.

Note: I am not a Mason--just done some research, that's all.

A lot of people would disagree with you on that one. I've looked into Masonry just a little but there are some very negative things said about it.

There are negative things said about anything and everything under the sun if people make it out to be that way. Religious zealots will cry that Masonry is tied into Satan/idol worship somehow, but that couldn't be further from the truth. People get tied up in all these things, but the fact is that it's very symbolic, these figures are meant to convey a higher truth or principle. That can be easily overlooked...

 
It's basically sun, moon and God worship. I didn't go any deeper into it because it conflicted with what I believed true. But it's basically smoke and mirrors. People say there are lots of crazy things that happen, those things definitely don't happen for a long time if they do. Because like, once you're a master mason (3rd degree) you start to kind of choose where you want to go. It's a lot of hype. If it wasn't about worshipping the sun and the moon then I would definitely go deeper into it because they do a lot of the things that I agree with and I really like a lot of the values that they teach.. but I dont want to bow to the throne of baal (to be dramatic).

This is all true. And if you guys want to really know what it is all about read the Hiram Key, it will tell you everything you need to know. And it will even walk you through the first three ceremonies. I'm done.
 
I was a member of demolay... basically young masons. I have a membership to the masons whenever I want to go get inducted. Basically you do some rituals together. Discuss things. It's a fraternal order: a fraternity for adults. It's fun.

Also, feel free to check out www.mastermason.com. If you want to join just find a local lodge, go in there and tell them you want to become a member. They'll interview you and your family. If they like you, you're in. If you're black, you'll probably have a tougher time because sometimes there are some "good ol' boys" in there who will blackball you.
