Anyone here a full time 30-32hr/wk?

In the US you must work a minimum of 30 hours per week to he considered a full time employee, and thus still eligible for full time benefits.

Does anyone here do this? I'm thinking I wouldn't mind reducing to 75-80% salary for 4 days a week of work... and if you did, is/was it worth it? Or did you end up frequently getting dragged into those extra 8 hours due to meetings, deadlines, etc?

From the standpoint of extra time off...that would be OK, but I always worked hourly jobs, and for most of my career, I wouldn't consider staying long term on a job that worked less than 50 hours. I worked a few 5x8 jobs, a few 4x10 jobs, and the extra day off was sweet as hell, but I never stayed long...I wanted the overtime...and way too many 7-12s...those suck the life out of you. (preferred was 6-10s)

Most full time employees who go to work for 40 hours a week are actually "working" for well less than 30 hours a week.

So I would say no, not worth it.

I worked with a guy who did 3x8s for lower pay and full benefits, not sure how he swung that. He loved it, but you will instantly be looked down upon by your coworkers, especially if they really need you on your regular off day. Not fair, perhaps, but that's just how it will go. I think it depends on what line of work your're in - mine is very boom and bust, so it wouldn't make a lot of sense for me. If you're in a good place careerwise and financially though, I think it could be a nice way to get some extra enjoyment out of life.

Have you tried working 4x10 or the 9/80 schedule?
