I just caught the end of something on CNBC.

This is all I heard.

Chances of hitting Earth, 500:1

Impact. Explosion the size of Hiroshima bomb.

Supposed to be on the front page of the LA Times tomorrow.

only the size of the hiroshima bomb? it must be a fairly "small" asteroid then. I haven't heard anything about this...but I guess I'll see what's going on tomorrow.

That'd really suck.. 1:500 odds are better than winning anything from the lotto.. :(

What are the odds of one actually hitting a large city like New York or Los Angelos?

Btw, if it hits it'll be in 2030, and it'll be 100 times bigger than the Hiroshima bomb. :Q

1:500...

Better odds than the Clintons having sex with one another before 2030.

I wonder if there is a program that is in use for a distributed computing project akin to seti that would be utilized to hunt for and disect data in a search for near earth orbit objects? If not, there should be. There is just a handful of observitories on the planet looking for this stuff. This does not amuse me. It should not be amusing to anyone.

NO on many counts.

No on the claim that it will be 100 times Hiroshima. That is an estimate an "up to." In reality, ALLLLLL we know is that it's too far away to know the size of it. It could be small. It could be man-made space junk. It could possibly wipe out life, or it could hit the atmosphere and burn up. And no on this, and I stress this STRONGLY

HULK. FOR GOD'S SAKE, please, for the sake of not worrying anyone, the odds are 1:500, NOT 500:1. 500:1 means it's 500 times more likely to happen than not, and that is opposite of the truth in this case.

BTW, Tripleshot....I am with you. This is not amusing, and I don't see how people can just laugh this stuff off. This is a SERIOUS threat. One we are not prepared to deal with in any way, shape, form, or fashion.

Sorry about that you're right! Stupid mistake.
Didn't mean to freak anyone out.
