Anyone have trouble with lite-on?

Well, I was planning on doing a reformat, so i inserted my xp cd. Well, it wouldnt read it. So, i then tried inserting a music cd, to no avail. Now, i have had this happen to be before, but I would just use system restore and it would read my cd's again. However, system restore won't work (Partly the reason I am reformating). Could it be a driver issue or something? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Might be an issue with your OS. Let us know what happens after your reformat. Could you hear the disk spinnning?

They should be called Lite-off. These Lite-off drives are the cheapest pieces of junk I've seen.

I'm sure I had the same model (same specs). The thing sounded like a child's wind-up toy whenever the drive opened, or closed. It also wouldn't even read (without errors) a brand spankin new XP-Pro CD. :disgust: I got rid of it ASAP.

Lite-On drives are a tremendous value... but as with anything, sometimes they go bad. I've never had a problem with my 52x24x52 that I bought nearly 3 years ago.

I would suggest you just buy a new drive.

i like lite-on, see if it'll read cds in safe mode? also on my old nforce3 socket 754 board neo plat i had problems w/ the latest nforce drivers so i had to step back try doing that. check your ide device properties

Mine died about a month ago, and had lasted about a year. It would still read, but quit burning. I seldom used it.

Smoke or have pets? Might be worth it to try and clean the 'eye'. Maybe it literally can't read. Otherwise, they are cheap drives - I have a few myself.

I had a machine (bought second hand by my brother, then passed on to me) with a Lite-On CD-RW that would read, but not burn anymore.
A friend also had a computer with a Lite-ON CD-RW which had the same problem (would burn but not read).
Since drives are so cheap, you would probably be better off getting a new one, maybe even a DVD-RW.
Sounds like the drive is dead.

I have a Lite On DVD burner. It's the crappiest drive I've ever used. It won't read a lot of disks and any disk that it burns has WAY too many errors on it. I recently replaced it with a Benq 1620 and it runs 100% better. I'm currently using the lite on drive as a doorstop.

Yes, and it was still crappy. I found that giving the drive the boot was better than booting off of it.

I was referring to the poster....He said it would work after doing a system restore (drivers,virus,spyware???), so it he booted off of it and reformatted from there and installed, that would fix the problem. And I have at least 4 lite-on drives, and they all work well.

Odd enough....

the 52327S are some of the highest rated CD-R/W drives on the market. Liteon CD drives are fast, accurate, and nearly indestructible. They make such name brands as Sony and Buslink, though identical hardware-wise, they are named different. As wiith all drives, you have to use the recommended media or else go it at your own risk.

Also, if you use the nVidia SW IDE driver, you cannot burn until you install an ASPI driver. If you are using the MS IDE driver, then it is not necessary.

There are numerous firmware updates out there, and not upgrading is a bad idea if you want to use high speed media. QSOE is one of the latest. If you are not running QSOE or better, then you should try to get current before you try anything else

Try installing or updating the ASPI layer software (download from adaptec.com) - yeah, I know it says it's for SCSI, but it seems to solve optical drive problems too.

Nero also has an ASPI driver that works (at least in Nero)

I just retired a Lite-On 12x burner due to a DVD-RW upgrade. Best burner I ever had and it still worked well until I took it out.
