I've been using lukwarm water and a flat scraper. I tried a steamer, but that was even worse. I've got about 1/2 of my kitchen done, but that took me 6 hours on Saturday. The only thing is, I can't use wallpaper removal spray, because there's stuff in it that isn't good for my wife to inhale, since she's pregnant.

Any other ideas to make this project go more quickly?

I was going to suggest a steamer but sounds like you've already tried that without much success. Might want to get the wife to go stay with some friends or family and get the wallpaper removal spray.

My parent's experiences with wallpaper have convinced me that I will never put anything up beyond border paper.

The steamer trick should work....just be sure to totally saturate the walls...it really takes a lot of water to get the glue to let go sometimes...

i do :D

pay someone to do it professionally for you ;) It really isn't worth the massive amounts of time and effort involved to do it yourself :( I know from experience at home :p

Or if you have kids old enuff, offer them $10 to do it, or an neighbours kid you trust if you don't ;)

i really, really hated getting wallpaper off :|

Add vinegar to the water. Can you peel off the outer layer of paper? That's what I usually do, leaving the paper backing and glue. Soak the paper, let it sit, soak it again, if it doesn't start coming off easy, let it sit again, soak it one last time. After you get it off, mist the wall again and come back with a scraper to remove the glue.

Rip the wall down and then put up new sheet rock, tape, mud, sand, primer coat, paint. I hate wallpaper.

steam is one way, but chemicals is another. apply those adhesive removers, wait for about 20 minutes and then peel off. wait too long and you'll do a lot of scraping heh.

You need one of these or something similar and one of the recipes for removal solutions that shouldn't bother pregnant women from here and that should help. Also several tips for removal at that last site. Good luck and happy peeling!

Tell your wife to go out side, to a friends house, to a hotel etc. Why not just primer the wall and paint over it.

geta paper tiger and score the surface. then use a diluted mix of hot water and vinegar. scrape. then use a sponge and sponge on liquid fabric softener. scrape. repeat as needed.
