As I get older, I still find I like all of the new music and 'styles' - but I'm finding strange reactions from my age group (mid 30's). . .

I knew something was going wrong other day when I pulled into my parking spot near a coworker while I was playing the song "Paper Airplanes" real loud. . . .

Sigh. . .

Fuck 'em. You adapt to music better than a lot of people. Some seem to be stuck in what was playing in "their generation" and tend to ignore new music. I admit, a lot of the new stuff is absolute crap, but it's catchy as sin.

when I was a kid, I made a promise never to grow up to be like my dad culturally.

his choices in music, movies, and television pretty much halted somewhere around the height of disco.

all he listens to in the car are oldies stations, light fm, and 60's/70's soft rock compilations, and all he watches on tv is that nick-at-night channel.

The problem with your Dad's not so much that's he's stuck in a time-warp so much as it is that he had, and still has, really, really bad taste.

Careful, I hear the condition is often genetic. ;)

I've been looping Taylor Swift's album repeatedly for the last few weeks. Considering I'm in my early twenties, that is WAY worse than 'Paper Airplanes'. It's just catchy, and for the past few years, I've been doing what "cool" people do by avoiding mainstream music. I use to leave my TV on Much Music (MTV north) all day long as a teen.

at least I'll have contemporary bad taste :p

and if I can get my niece to play the spice girls nonstop when she's older to torture my sister, I'll consider it a retro job well done.

Meh, I like the song Paper Planes. One thing I've always told myself is I am never going to apologize or feel guilty for enjoying a particular song/movie/book/whatever. Sometimes I just like stuff and can't explain why.

I discover music 6 months after the "kids" do (I'm 22). I generally don't like 90% of what's popular at the time, but maybe 10% of the songs I hear I like at least for a while, and less than 1% is what I consider download worthy and will add to my collection.

My music collection is pretty broad genre wise, with the only common genre (not really a genre, since styles are all different) being soundtrack/theme music from video games, movies and TV shows.
