the hospital staff thought that i, a 27 year old man (at the time), would just love having unlimited ice cream all day long after my tonsillectomy.

you get sick of it pretty quick.

Any adults have this done that can share your experiences?

Had this done when I was 20, one of the worst experiences of my life. I've had over 20 kidney stones, and would gladly take 5 or 6 stones over having that done again. 1.5 weeks before solid food, 2 weeks before able to work, 3 weeks before being comfortable.

Recently, tonsils had gotten SERIOUSLY swollen that i was bedridden for a good week and could barely eat or sleep. My tonsils never have fully returned to thier normal size since. And i also notice god awful breath since as well. I'm trying to avoid having the surgury done as I can't afford health insurance to cover costs and the time i'll be out of work (and my fancy job doens't provide benefits)...i'm just trying to bide my time and hope it doesn't flare up again.

if it does, i'm screwed. :(

I'm thinking about scheduling the surgery for early March. The Dr. wants to send me home right after surgery. I would feel more comfortable staying in the hospital for at least one night.

I don't have any tonsils... or at least my girlfriend said she can't see any. I've never had them taken out, but apparently they are so small that I'll probably never have to have them taken out. :)

we had this topic a long time ago, not going to get too deep into it, but it hurts, hurts alot. and very dangerous also.
one plus that helped me while in the hospital:

MORPHINE ON DEMAND

that is the best.

you wont be able to go home, since you can't eat. i was on a IV for two days after. didn't take a crap for about two weeks (no solid food)

Do it. Meds will help. Drinkable yogurt was my friend. I had a lot of tissue removed, and the Boston hospital staff had not seen a larger or worse set of tonsils. In other words I was worst case, but I feel so much better now, I can't believe it.
Which hospital in Boston?
