Looks nice. I just got back from Bestbuy and all of the westinghouse lcds looked really nice. One thing that concerns me though is the 22" part of it. While being a good size for a small TV I wonder how it would look up close with only having 1680x1050 and having 2 extra inches then a normal 1680x1050 monitor.

This one sounds pretty good - 22" LCD with 1680x1050 resolution. The works out to a pixel size of 0.282 mm, which is still smaller than the pixels on a 19" LCD. This will make it much easier on the eyes (for most people) compared to the 20" LCD at the same resolution. A least I'm struggling a bit with the small pixels on my 20" LCD.

A 22" monitor with 1680x1050 resolution has slightly smaller pixels than a 24" with 1920x1200. I have a Dell 2405fpw and I can see the pixel structure slightly but then I have good eyesight. Personally I think 24" is too big, and 22" might be a little large for gaming, depending on the distance. Its great for text though - I find the 20" 1680 monitors slighty small unless you use large fonts.
You could always move the monitor an inch or so further back if you see pixel structure.
The impressive spec here is 5ms for a 22" monitor, that's probably the best spec I've seen quoted on a 20+" widescreen (faster than the NEC 20" 6ms that people have been touting as the fastest large widescreen monitor for gaming.) Of course people can quote anything, sometimes the quoted spec doesn't tell the full story. I'm interested in seeing a good review of this monitor where both panel response time and input lag are properly measured.

The NEC uses an AS-IPS panel, wonder what this uses.

:| I have the Westinghouse 22w2 monitor. I bought it from Best Buy on July 30, 2006 and returned it for replacement (same monitor) on August 22, 2006. I was working at my computer for about 1 hour when the monitor started to "fade out" and then went completely black, I shut down my computer and unplugged everything (even the monitor) and the monitor still didn't work!!

I called Westinghouse and waited 9 days before I got an authorization in order to return the monitor back to Best Buy, they took it back with no problem.

Well I've had the replacement monitor for less than a month (same monitor mind you)....... guess what! I had to call Westinghouse back this morning (10/10/06) because last night my monitor started "fading out" - I haven't lost it completely yet but I need to shut the monitor off after just 15 minutes of use (you can see the colors starting to fade and the top of the monitor gets pretty hot). I do not have the monitor hanging on the wall and plenty of room all around it so the vents are not blocked.

 :thumbsdown:DO NOT BUY THE WESTINGHOUSE 22w2 MONITOR!!!!

All these new 22-inch widescreen 1680x1050 monitors ( I found Acer, Samsung, Westinghouse, Viewsonic... any others?) use the same 6-bit TN panel from Chi Mei. Only features and control electronics should vary between brands.

Also, sethk, TVCalculator.com shows that pixel density is higher with the 1920x1200 24-inch than the 1680x1050 22-inch, so pixel size should be bigger on the 22-inch, unless there is something I don't understand.

Any more opinions on this Westinghouse LCD? BB will be selling these for $199 on Black Friday, I pretty serious about getting one but I just haven't seen much in the way of reviews or comments from gamers (I'm a big time gamer).

I've been eyeballing it myself after seeing the BF ads. It looks like a sweet deal.

Does anyone know if it has 1:1 pixel mapping? The user manual online lists an aspect ratio control with setting of normal, zoom, and stretch; does that have to do with the 1:1? It also has composite, s-video and component inputs which is pretty sweet.

i have this lcd, it is pretty badass. Can't tell you if it has 1:1 pixel mapping... anyone care to explain what that term means? I'm guessing it means like if the resolution being pushed it from a video card is 1680x1050, it displays one pixel for all 1,764,000 dots being sent to it? If it means anything, text/images/etc look much sharper at 1680x1050 than they do any other resolution. When using any other resolution, it looks like it's stretching the image and such.

Also, from the review of this appears to be a sweet deal, but if you're a gamer and by chance, your game doesn't support the widescreen factor, then you're out of luck with trying to change the settings to "fit" the screen.

Quote from a buyer: "If your game won't support widescreen resolutions there's no way of changing the monitor settings to a native 4:3 aspect ratio on its DVI or VGA inputs."

i don't think there are any games left that you can't at least mod to support widescreen. you have a good point though, interesting that i havn't seen anything to suggest otherwise.

Well, I just returned from Best Buy and picked one of these up. So far I am impressed but it will take some time to get used to. I am moving from a Dell P1130 21" CRT which was one of the better 21" crt's available. I will definately need to speed some time on adjustments because the colors and brightness are not to my liking out of the box. I will do some testing later today and reply back. Stayed up gaming until heading to BB at 2:00a.m. to get in line. There were significantly more people there than I expected so I wasn't sure I would get one. I would say several hundred people ahead of me. We almost got screwed because one employee put us in a computer line and told us LCD's came from that line. Stood in line about 20 minutes and noticed everyone leaving the line had full systems but we kept getting passed by other people with LCD's. I finally asked a manager and he told us they were at the front of the store by the service desk stacked up and you could help yourself. Several of us made a mad dash to the front and I was able to get the next to last unit. There were some very angry people that stood in line half the night that got screwed because of one misinformed employee. I don't know why I put myself through this every year.

for the record, i hate you. ;) i arrived at best buy in Huntsville, Alabama at 4:45am and proceeded to the back of a line that wrapped along the entire front of the building (4 store fronts) and almost the entire way down the back of the building. It was about 3/4 of a mile (i drove it). The westinghouse was gone at 5:02. I could walk around and see 3 or 4 in people's carts from anywhere i stood. It just pissed me off so much that i can spend so much time and energy researching something only to have it snatched out from under me by a bunch of hicks. I wanted to stop everyone and say "OK, wait! we need to have a competency test before anyone can go home with this display. First Question:....." It wouldn't be so bad, except that i am a college student with limited funds and time, and this would have worked out really well for me. i know i am obsessing, it was just aggrevating. Anywho....i can't spend more than $300, so i'm back to square one....

I also picked up this monitor this morning at Best Buy. I got in line around 1:20am and was maybe the 50th person. I was hoping to sell my spot to some schmo for $300 like they were doing with the PS3's, but no such luck. ;) Seriously, my main goal was to get either this monitor, or the Samsung 19" widescreen that was on sale for $129.00. As I see from the previous two posters, my BB here in CT wasn't the only one absolutely mobbed as 5am approached. The line of people was wrapped around the side of the building, and down the street. Probably close to a mile. I was amazed.

Anyway, the let 20 people in at a time, so I was in the 3rd set of people in the store. Most people were going for either tv's, or laptops, or complete PC systems. There were a stack of these monitors, probably 30 of them. They also had about 30 of the Samsungs too. I was able to compare for a few minutes, and decided to go for the 22". Figured for $199, you can't go wrong. I even used a few McDonalds $1 coupons from the monopoly game, so it was $196.00 before tax.

I'm at work now on no sleep, so needless to say I haven't hooked up my new monitor yet. I'll post a review when I do later on tonight.
