Anyone have the GP2X?

It looks pretty freakin' cool, and from what I can tell, most major emulators are out there for it...

So, any ATers have one? How easy is it to find software for them? How easy is it to get stuff on them?

Oh, and the thing is, the only thing the 'P2P' has going for it is emulated games. Why would I buy a system where I have to worry about the newest firmware locking me out because the parent company wants to protect their revenue stream?

This is not a 'GP2X' or mainstream console thread, it's a question of it's usability and simplicity on its own...

There have been a couple of threads on it in the Opposable Thumbs area of Ars Technica, some people slammed the build / QA quality in one thread (high DOA) and in a thread a couple of days ago someone posted that the CPU is too slow to run some emulators.

I'd buy one anyway, if I had more free time to play with writing code for it.

One of the guys from the Linux Live Tech Show, http://www.tllts.org has one. Seems to be happy with it. Also there was a post on digg about how you could get a full linux install running on it. External KBD, Mouse ectera. Seems like a neat little machine.

I just come about this, i would love one. Think about all the old Atart ST and Amiga games you could stick on a 4GB SD card and play on this thing. This alone sells it for me, Not to mention all the other things you can do with it.

Huh? They're doing fine. As an aside, I got one and am VERY happy with it. Everything up to the 16bit gen is solid, except for SNES, which has come a long way in the last two weeks -- it's getting there. And the PSX is actually partially emulated even.

I was ready to sell my PSP (don't play many commercial games) and get one, but the lack of wifi killed it for me. I use many wifi-enabled apps on my PSP (browsers, media streamers, etc.). I could've sworn I'd read it was going to include wifi a few months before it came out.

I got to try one at a LAN party recently. The interface was impressive, as was the media playback.. and the fact that the memory cards for them are so cheap is nice; however, I was quite disappointed by the battery life and speed of certain emulators (mame, neogeo, snes) versus the PSP, even with the CPU overclocked quite a bit past spec. (further reducing the battery life of course).

Still a cool little unit though. I'd like to get one in addition to my PSP when I've got some spare cash.

How are you liking it, So? I saw you mention you'd gotten one in another thread recently.

Quite pleased. I don't really need wifi, so that's a nonissue for me and I've found that the emulators are making strides. As for battery life, with my 2500mAh rechargeables I get at least 4hrs uptime, overclocked.

Whats your opinion on the emulator speed? Im especially intrested in Atari ST, Amiga and MAME emulation.
