I have it.....once in a great while, it will do an Err99 on me and I will have to take it off and put it back on, but other than that no problems. Works great for me. There were issues with some of them that were first off of the line, so I'd recommend you research the problem and if you buy used that you don't get one with a date code that could have the issue.

I just bought a used one...and it's an older version but the person says that he had no problems with it. If i do have issues with the grip won't I be able to get Canon to fix it for free?

When was yours made?

I don't know if Canon will fix it after the initial warranty...but they ought to since it was a design flaw.

I have no friggin clue when mine was made, just know it works good :p

I bought one right around xmas, no problems at all so far (knock-on-wood).

I LOVE mine... it adds so much depth to the base that it's great for landscape shooting as well.

Go for it! :)

The only thing that I dislike about it is that on the bottom of the grip, the tripod socket is no longer lined up with the center of the lens. That bugs me.

Why should it bother you? It was engineered that way for a reason.

Okay Mr. I think I know everything. Why was it made that way? What is the reason for it?

I never claimed to know everything, but I'm sure it has something to do with changing the balance of the camera with a grip on a tripod. It's not like they just picked some random spot and said let's put the tripod socket here.

Well with your statement you obviously claim to know that there is no reasonable expectation for the socket to be centered to the lens. Obviously if it was centered, the thing would fall apart.

Please.

They could engineer it to work just fine if the socket was centered, but they didn't. Why? I don't know, but there is a way to make it work as it should.
