I have been thinking about getting a tattoo for a while now, I have been trying to figure out something to get for a while now.. I don't want something that I am going to get sick of, or won't mean anything in the future. I have been thinking about getting my first name in Chinese Lettering, it's something simple, and it means something.. and I don't think i'm going to get sick of my own name =)

Anyways.. I have been looking around on the internet to find out what my name actually looks like in Chinese.. I found a few websites that tell you what your name is in Chinese.. the only problem is, each website is showing me different symbols.. none of them are the same.. I don't really understand the Chinese Language, and I am not sure if this is a mistake on the websites, or if there is different ways to write the name... but I fell very un-comfortable getting a tattoo that may be wrong!! that would really suck!

Is there a way that I can find out what my name is? is there any Chinese people here that would be able to tell me? =P.

BTW.. my name is: Jayme

Here is one of the translations of my name: Name and here is the same name, but it looks totally different: Name.. so you can see the problem I am facing!

Also, I would like to know if anyone else here has tattoo's, and what they are of... any regrets?

Thanks,

If you wanted it in Japanese I could help you, because you could just write it in Katakana characters. I don't know how foreign words/phrases are spelt in Chinese though..

i already have a chinese name. i can't help you if you were not born with one.

i am thinking of having my LAST name tattooed to the back of my right shoulder.

The first characters of both chinese names are the same. One is written in simplified form. The meaning is "excellence".

The first name is a more accurate tranlstaion of you name. It was pronounce as (approximately) "Jay Mei" in Chinese (Mandarin) or "Gig Mike" in Cantonese.

The second translation is pronounced as "Jay Inn" or "Gig Yank". I don't understand why Jayme is translated this way. Maybe the author used his creative mind.

How Long is a Chinese name.

What possesses people to want to get a tatoo. I don't get it. Regrets, I've seen lots of um.

no offense but i think its funny when people get tats of writing or symbols that are not from their own haritage...ex, im not irish, id never get a tat of a keltic weave: ). but good luck with whatever you get and i hope your happy with it.

btw my statements arent directed directly at you j, you just made me think of it, i have no idea what background you come from : )

I have several tats. I don't regret any of em. One is a nightmare (horse breathing fire with blue and white smoke, with red eyes) got it in Freemantle, Australia. One is my last name is red, white and blue lettering, got that in the Phillipines. Last one is a prism on an octagon background, very nicely done by Inkers in San Diego (I was going through a "I'm so deeeeep" stage! 🙂 ) They all have held their color very well, but be warned, when the guy was doing the nightmare and coloring in the mane of the horse, by time he got to the end, it felt like he was just jamming the needles into my arm and ripping the flesh out. It freakin hurt!!! 🙁

I knew a guy who had "F--- You" tattoed on the bridge of his right hand in arabic, so when he saluted officers.... well, you get the picture. Strange, he was a lifer in the military too.

Just my $.02

Humm.. ya, the first one is close.. but I don't know if close is good enough, this is something I have to live with for the rest of my life =)

I have no Chinese in me what so ever, but I love the heritage, and I think the writing looks awesome.. it amazes me!.. plus it will make people wonder what it means etc... chinese tattoos are pretty popular these days.. but thats not why I want one.

I'll do some more searching around to see what I can find... I have no idea how people read Chinese letters, how do you get a word out of lines?? lol

i have 4 🙁 tho i was bright enough to get them in places easily hideable with a short sleeve shirt.🙂
me thinx alot of ppl(maybe myself included)from the 20 something gen are going to make lazer treatment specialists rich.
advice:really really think well, before u get one, take weeks to decide..
and have a working plan to possibly alter the tatoo over time, dont get something soo big where itll look like hell if u want to change it into something else down the road.

i was thinking of getting my chinese name written in english somewhere on me, on account that i think my chinese name is so funny. if i ever did it i would most likely do it in chinese too. but doing it in english would be much more funny just because a guy with 'big king' written on his body would seem pretty funny to me : /

Be *very* careful when you try to have an english name translated into chinese; there are generally *no* true "translations" from english to chinese. Chinese names are given with very careful thought not only to sound, but to meaning. If you are truly interested in having your name translated into chinese for a tattoo, go out and find someone you trust in the real world to help you out instead of just using a search engine. There are simply too many intricities to be relayed across an impersonal text medium and if you're considering a tattoo, you have to be absolutely positive that you are getting *exactly* what you want. Also keep in mind the placement of your tattoo -- in general, you don't want it placed on "public" skin that is not easily hideable when necessary.

My own armband is a celtic design largely because of a lifelong interest in the culture as well as the symbolism behind celtic knots in general (the artwork for this was my own design). "Ladi" is on the inside because it's a nickname I've been using for years -- I answer to it in real life and many of my friends use it instead of my real name. Even if I "outgrow" it, it will last as a symbol of the many years I was known as Ladi.

I am currently working on the art for a celtic/chinese dragon backpiece that will incorporate my first given name -- my chinese name, as opposed to the english name on my birth certificate (although my legal name does include my entire chinese name in pinyin).

No regrets, but lots of hassles keeping my armband hidden away from the parents and others (parents know but dislike my ink, so I try not to flaunt it in front of them).

If you're not sure, keep waiting and get it later.

~Ladi

What's with everybody getting tattoes of chinese characters?
i personally think it's pretty cool. is it a fad or something?

I'm Chinese and I'm with Ladi on this one. Have someone you know and trust who is well versed in the chinese language and have him/her help you out......

Wow, I didn't know that this would be so tough.. but your very right.. I definitally do not want to get a tattoo that means something other then what I thought it did!

Humm.. maybe I will have to rethink the idea of putting the tatto on the side of my neck.. might be too visible.

I was also thinking about getting an arm band in the future.. and on my shoulder, the Chinese symbol for Strength which can be seen: Here
