I rode streetbikes for several years and logged about 80k miles on my 2 R6s in the 5 years I rode. Now i'm looking to get back into riding and am looking at the supermoto bikes. Anyone here ride supermoto? I'd like to ride this on the street and the race track and it looks like the Aprilla offers great flexibility to do both.

Any input?

Heres a link to the bike i'm considering...

I've never heard of Aprillia, now I'm going to have to go study.

Never heard of Aprilia? You live under a rock or something? 😛

I kind of like the Aprilia Shiver 750 but compared to the SV650, the SV is a faster bike. Still, there's a lot to like about the Shiver...namely, better suspension and brakes.

I'm a Harley guy, we don't notice other bikes until they park next to us at the bar.

That bike looks like something I'd have really enjoyed thirty years ago, today it looks like something that would hurt me.

Naked bikes aren't bad for comfort actually. I'm not exactly young and I can spend a whole day on mine without being sore the next day.

The Aprilla SVX bikes are race bikes with lights or similar to a plated SMR from KTM and Husgvarna. Like any supermoto, they are incredibly fun but they focus more on performance and less on mpg/comfort/cost then some options out there. If you're willing to give up those things then you'd probably be very happy with the bike. There are plenty of options out there for stock SM depending on what you want and nowadays you can turn damn near any offroad bike into an SM for about $1000. For about $1500 you can get entire wheel/tire/rotor/sprocket packages for popular bikes and it's not hard to plate bikes in most states.

I own a plated 00 xr650r SM and it's the most fun out of any bike I've owned. I currently have a f3 track bike and a sv650 along with the xr and they don't get touched much anymore. There is nothing like hitting some twisties on the way home from work and then immediately pulling off into the woods and hitting some trails and 5-10ft jumps...then pop back out and hit some more twisties. During the winter I'll toss my dirt wheels back on with studded tires and take the bike out on the bay to tear up some ice. These bikes do literally everything.

Some good resources are supermotojunkie.com and thumpertalk.com

The SXV is also a VERY high strung motor. Frequent valve checks and oil changes will be in your future.
Dont get me wrong, what a blast it would be, but if I were looking to go Sumo i would be looking at something much more bullet proof. XR650R, 650L, WR450 or any of the LC4 based KTM machines.

This + it's stolen a lot. If you go somewhere, keep it within sight.
