Anyone have one of those Bazooka tube car subs?

I want to add some base to my work ride (Saturn), but I don't want anything heavy - just a boost over the stock speakers. A Bazooka is looking pretty good, anyone have one? This way I can keep my trunk space and get a decent bass improvement.

They are an option on Scion TC cars. I would read some of their forums like scionlife.com to get a better idea. I'm not a sub specialist so I won't even comment.

i had one in my pickup truck. while it added some bass i don't know if it was worth what i paid. i had the 6.5 (6?) tube tho because of space limitations. also i don't think stuffed behind a seat is optimal. i'm thinking of trying the 8" in my new car, i had an 8" jbl tube back in the day that was pretty nice.

I had one many years ago and the dang thing never worked. Worked for the first week, then quit. I rma'd it, and the return unit never worked once.

If JBL makes them i would go JBL 😉

Nah, just a cheapie aftermarket Aiwa with front-input. I like the stock speakers, actually. Just want a little more oomph on the low-end.

this was like, 94. i don't know that they still do. and they weren't powered like the bazooka tubes are. bring your own amp and whatnot.

I think I will use them in my next set up.
They are way way way better than no dedicated sub ie., just using 5 1/4 speakers.

I had a 10" passive one and it sounded decent. Nothing window rattling though. The sub is pretty cheap so I wouldn't feed it any more than 150W.

I would suggest a 8" in a sealed box instead if you're tight on space. This would give you tighter, and cleaner bass than the bazooka tube.

I used to have an 8" powered one when I had a Jeep Cherokee. It was decent, put out a good amount of bass but most of that was probably due to the fact it wasn't in an enclosed trunk. They aren't terribly musical, the bass can be very muddy at times. But if you aren't looking for something real tight and just want to add a little bottom end, they are a decent choice.

I had a Bazooka tube that was eventually replaced by boxed subs.
It's decent but don't expect earth-shaking bass.
The good news is that it saves your trunk space.
Also check out the Basslink.

I would use the JL steal systems if they made them for my vehicle - they don't currently for saturn.

as far as tightness, etcc, or what ever the latest fad words are for describing bass - the bottom line is surface area times excursion. You can basically trade an eq for the box.

Although new speakers would sound a lot cleaner they tend to lack bass. Most people notice a loss in bass after replacing their stock speakers. This is just how aftermarket speakers are, very good in midbass but weak on the lower bass notes. A dedicated sub would then help bring out the lows.

Had an 8" powered one that sounded great in my Blazer. But it sounded like crap in a trunk. From my experience, they work well in trucks, SUV's and wagons. If you have a trunk, I'd opt for an actual box and a pair of 8's or one single 10". I have a single 10" in the trunk of my Maxima with around 350W going to it. It's a really nice compliment to the front/rear speakers. Not overpowering but definitely provides a nice thump. And my one 10" + amp takes up less space than my 8" tube did.

i have 2 10 inch jbl subs

I have one, it fills in a cheap system nicely, my car has been broken into a few times, and for some reason the theives wont take it like they did my subs and amp. Its perfect for a cheap system to fill in the bass. If mine were stolen, id probably get another one, they are cheap but do the job VERY well imo. PM me if you have a question or two.

It's because now most speakers are 2-3-4 way, whereas the stock speakers are one way. The additional 2-3-4 tweeters on the speaker block the cone from producing bass.

I have an 8" bazooka...frankly I love it. I never wanted overpowering bass, just a nice punch, and that's exactly what it delivers. I wanted a cheap solution to upgrade my factory stereo to sound tolerable, and it did exactly that for ~$80.

For what it promises, it delivers. If you wanted to spend thousands on your car stereo, you wouldn't have asked about it. But no regular door speaker will deliver anywhere near the punch that it will. I used it in my '91 Eclipse and now in my Mazda6 wagon - the Eclipse is a hatchback without a real trunk and the wagon is open, so you don't need an enclosed trunk to get what you're looking for.

It may be a bit bigger than you're thinking though. It'll consume some trunk space.

Yup!

I've had a kicker system in the past for my cars, then I got a jeep and had a small 8" sub. The Bazooka is probably decent when you consider it's mobile, easy to install, and fairly inexpensive. Bass quality will be relatively low compared to the bigger systems you can put in, but it will probably enhance the music without overpowering it. So in other words, get it to enhance the music, but not to bump when you're cruising.
