Thinking of upgrading my machine to 1.5g of RAM - I have 512mb now. Just wondering if there would be much of a performance increase...

(Running Windows 2000 on a P4 1.5ghz machine)

yeah, 1024 in my laptop. guess that doesn' count?

I rarely use more than 512 physical memory.

256 is fine for me...

I had 512MB of PC133 but then I upgraded to a new CPU so I had to get DDR and I only had money for 256MB. Man 256MB hurts....virtual memory gets hit so much more now.

I have 1.5 gigs. My scanner takes up 1 gig of ram doing its thing. I have a canon fs4000 scanner set at hi res so I need all the ram I can get.

I've got 1.5 gig in my Natural Selection server. It's a real RAM pig, but that's probably overkill. If you use Adobe Premeire or other video editing software it definitely helps, but more than 512MB is overkill now.

384 -iBook
512 -Athlon 1800
32 -ss10
128 -ultra 10

And depending on which chips I bought a year or so ago either 512 or 1024 in my soon to be rebuilt dual p3.

I do in two of the machines in my house at the moment (a dual P3-S with 2GB of PC133, and a P4 2.26 with 1.5GB of PC1066). Honestly, it doesn't help 90% of the time for me..... there are only a FEW applications where it makes a difference. But boy does it make a difference then--anything that will prevent swapping to the HDD is great.

Before you upgrade, just look at your RAM usage for a few days in Task Manager. If you're not going over your limit, then don't do it--spend your money elsewhere. I had a VERY specific use in mind when I added that much RAM to those machines.

Hot damn. You run an NS server?

PM me the IP when you get a chance and I'll stop by sometime. :D

unless you use photoshop or some other mem hog you wont see a diffrence in perfomance past 512.

i wouldnt go below 512 myself. but no need right now to go above 1gig.
