Looking at Maxtor drives for my new system and was wondering if any of you have ever used one with fluid bearings? Suppose to be close to the Seagate for sound. Or lack there of. I'd like to know what people think of these. Here is the newegg discription:
MAXTOR EIDE HARD DRIVE MODEL # 6L060L3 60GB 7200RPM - OEM, DRIVE ONLY DiamondMax PS D740X Plus ATA133/100, 2MB Cache Buffer, 3 Year Manufacturer Warranty QUIET DRIVE - "L" denotes Fluid Dynamic Bearing Motors.
Any advice is appriciated. Thanks 🙂

I have the standard bearings for the D740X, and personally I don't it find loud... but then again, I'm using a 7k Delta fan that i don't find loud :Q

I have D740X
it is louder than my old diamond max 30 gig
It makes noise when it seeks.
Not too bad though, but the 30 gig one I have is soundless.

I've got the 60GB D740X with the Fluid Bearings.

I can't hear it unless it is seeking.

I can't tell the difference cuz I dont have a same model with non fluid in it.. but i hope it's worth the extra 30 bucks they're charing...

I've got one of the 30 giggers with the fluid bearings. Even with the case off I can't hear it spinning or seeking, plus its fast. Great drive. If you're trying to build a quiet computer, use these.

I actually like drives with some sound because the fujitsu I have now is soundless. I don't even know when it is seeking.😕

I like to tell by listening to the hard drive when computer locks or something . I really hate obnoxious loud ones but some sound I likes. 🙂

I see. Great info all. I may go w/ the L series Maxtor. I want a quite drive but am more into reliablity. Looks like it fits the bill. Thanks

Anyone? Anyone? L series Maxtor w/ fluid bearing system sold on newegg. Anyone have one? I am lookiong at getting one and would like a little input please. Thanks

I've got 40GB models of both the 'J' and 'L'. There is very little difference. The 'L' is a teeny bit quietier, but you can still hear it seeking. Nonetheless, the D740X is a great drive -- backed by a reliable company with the best return policy in the industry. You can't go wrong.

about the fluid bearing drives, are they the same speed as the regular drives? newegg only charges a few bucks more for the fluid bearing version, and if they are the same speed i would definitely spend the money.
