I will probably never do anything that risky since I only have one pair of eyes. Maybe wait another 10-15 years and wait for technology to improve further (then maybe i will do it). I have been wearing glasses for the past 3 years and recently switched to contacts (and glasses sometimes).
If you really want to get it done, make sure you dont skimp on the money and get it done by a good doctor. Again, you only have 1 pair of eyes.
My father was planning to get it done last year. One of our family friends is an eye doctor/surgeon and my dad asked her for her frank opinion. She advised that there are some risks that your eyes can be messed up, and my dad has given up on the idea. (Note: she is an experienced surgeon herself and screens patients for lasik for those who want it but she advised my dad against it without even doing a pre-checkup on him. Acc. to her, the risks were still huge. And she herself wears glasses also. That itself tells on how safe she feels about it).
1% risk is still huge for my eyes. If it was life threatening, then i would do it BUT....
