I'm about to get it done and would like to know your experiences. I'm scheduled to have the procedure on Jan 5th. I'm getting the cutomvue wavefront lasik one.

*EDIT 1/9/06*

I just got my surgery on 1/5/06. Wow, this is amazing. Other than a little bruising on the eye that should clear up within 3 weeks, I can see clearly. I don't have any of the side effects either like dry eye or seeing star bursts at night. I do see a slight halo around bright lights at night, but they are slowly starting to go away as my eyes heal. Woot!

I had it about 10 months ago, one of the best things I've ever done for myself. I love not wearing glasses anymore. I also had custom wavefront lasik.

Did anyone that got it have floaters?

Did the procedure remove floaters?

floaters are inside your eye. lasik/lasek/anything won't remove them.

I was looking at lasik, and TLC offered to do my surgery, but after consulting with UCLA's laser eye center (who recommended prk-lasek) and my opthamalogist, I"m holding off for a new procedure. Aparently I have hereditarily thin(er) corneas. The PRK would be okay, but I'm not in the mood for a 2 week recovery.

I had it five years ago. My vision instantly corrected to 20/20. Five years later it's still 20/20. Yay me...

Now for the rough stuff. I probably had a harder recovery than most. My eyes were VERY dry for a year after the surgery. I had fuzzy halos around everything I saw for probably two years after.

Everything is perfect today though.

Didn't have lasik, but had PRK, which has a much longer recovery period... and I love it!

I just wanna do this while I'm still young... 28, so I can enjoy life without having to hunt for my glasses, and so I can fall asleep watching tv without my glasses getting in the way.

i have really thin corneas as well and terribly dry eyes. I did a procedure called Epi-Lasik with the guy who founded the operation linky link. Tru that my recovery time was 2 weeks+, but it was definately worth it. My eyes are still dry but NO MORE GLASSES

I was thinking of getting Lasik but I have dry eyes, so it's probably not a good idea. I'm looking at an alternative, where you just wear your contacts while you sleep and you can take them out the rest of the day.

I regret it. Had it about 5 years ago. Left eye did not heal properly, now have irregular astigmatism that can't be corrected with glasses or contact lenses.

No, it was not a cheap, shady place. Very well known, highly regarded.

Some people heal differently. Just like some people die during routine operations. You never know.

I know just as many people that wished they never did it as those who are happy with it. I'll pass for now.

I heard that the procedure more or less permanently messes up your tear ducts, so everyone gets dry eyes afterwards. How bad is it?

For more opinions, try
Advanced Search > lasik
and search archived threads instead of recent.

I'm waiting a few more years. 1% rate of "complications" is way too high for the only pair of eyes I have.

I was under the impression that everyone had floaters in their eye fluid, but people with poor vision were able to see it. Glasses/contacts don't filter them out because your eye inside is still deformed.

I was wondering if lasik corrected that distortion, thus elminated floaters in vision.

Because I don't see any benefit about going from contacts ---> lasik, other than having to spend 10 seconds in the morning and night taking them off/on. Aside from floaters, my vision is perfect with contacts.

I would not voluntarily take the risk of damaging my cornea. Please take some time and read this link and others about your eye.

http://www.nei.nih.gov/health/cornealdisease/index.asp#2

Vision correction can be handled with eyeglasses and contact lenses. You are a taking a very big risk for minimal return.

Plus, as you get older you will need reading glasses for Presbyopia. So you will not escape glasses forever, only delaying the eventual use of them.

Good Luck.

Yes, got it and without a doubt is the best money I've ever spent in my life.

I'm 25 now, started wearing contacts with I was 12 and glasses before that, now I'm going onto 2 years after the surgery and have not had any issues and have perfect 20/20, I opted for the "Custom Lasik" for a little amount more to make sure I didn't have any issues with my night vision (which I don't) and am glad to have spent the extra money.

Weirdest part of the whole thing was smelling my actual eyeball burning, that was just something I never in my life would have thought I would have experienced. :p

The guy who started that Lasik procedure and such has a huge house less than a quarter mile away from where I live

I had it done last february. So far so good. My eyes still get dry in the morning and a little during the day, but nothing to bad. Went in for my 6 month evaluation and was able to read some lines from the 20/15 line on the chart. I'll be going for my one year and I'm hoping the results will be the same.

I say go for it. Just pick a good doctor.

My eyes were dry for about a year after the surgery. And for even longer than that driving at night was horrible beacuse blight lights would give off a large fuzzy halo. It was probably 3-4 years before I felt like I was completly back to normal.

Looking back on it though... I'm glad I did it. I hated wearing galsses and I couldn't wear contacts. And I was blind as an f'ing bat without them.

October 2002, moderate presbyopia (far-sighted) plus astigmatism. I also had extreme light sensitivity. Lasik fixed all of it. I had been misdiagnosed when getting glasses, so I had never been able to see 20/20 in my life. My one-month checkup I was nearly 20/15 (it was clear enough to guess accurately, but not to truly read). At three months I had a bad concussion (sledding accident), losing some muscular control in my left eye. Now I'm maybe 20/30, but still no regrets.

Also, of the very many people I know who have had it (I interviewed about 20 people I work with who had LASIK), none of them regretted it after one year. A good doctor should help you to identify your personal risks. Mine offered to do one eye at a time (starting with left), since LASIK was not FDA approved for presbyopic treatment. I went for both and had a speedy recovery.

Also, I have never had an issue with dry eyes, before or since the surgery.

Yeah, my only tip is to not goo for those 499 a eye places.

they are like factories, when i went in there, they said I was a prime candidate, when i went in for my second and subsequently third opinions, they said that the first guy was smoking crack literallly and i knew it as well since I can never wear contacts.
