I was wondering if anyone had Intel's new 865PE Black PCB MB? It looks pretty dam awesome but I was wondering how it would perform. I don't O/C I run stock. I was thinking about getting this board and wanted some opinions on Intel's brand of MB's.

Thanks, karl26

If you dont plan on OC'ing, I think the intel board would be the best way to go. They have always been hella-stable in my experiences.

Intel board are always super stable. A great investment for non-overclockers such as... well... myself, too. :)

Congrats Karl! I think you and I are about the only 2 non-ocers on this board :)

Nah, us non-OCers are just quieter because we don't have to constantly post questions asking why our systems are unstable.

I use an Intel 845GEBV2L and an 875PBZLK both of them are amazingly stable. The 865PERL is a great board also, much better as an intergrated solution that the 875PBZ

Also not an O/Cer BTW

Definetly whenever I have to build a computer for non-performance oriented people, I always use an Intel mobo for Intel setups.

Even for non performqance or non overclockers I recommend the cheapest name brand mobo like Albatron. How can they be less stable when they use the same chipset. If you don't overclock and don't mess with settings once it's running it will never give trouble. Unless you stick some metal in there when it's turned on :)

I have an Intel 865PERLK board on its way. I read about some problems with memory stability in one of the AnandTech articles. Can anyone point me to memory that would be reliable with this board? I'm looking for two 512MB sticks.

Thanks,

David:confused:

The D865PERLK is one great feature packed board, it's in my main rig now :) (I did have the D875PBZ but returned it because I wanted the firewire + onboard sound). It's been perfectly stable for me, reads temps correctly, and is well supported by Intel.

I got two KINGSTON PC3200 512MB's for sale 150$ shipped.

KVR400X64C3A/512 <-- they are validated for both the Canterwood/Springdale chipsets

DDR400/PC3200 512MB Samsung based chips (if you guys look at the CMT test lab report @ intel's site, you'll notice that the DDR400 validated chips are all samsung based - not winbond and etc).

I've personally used them on the D865PERLK and the D875PBZ with no issues at all, ran at SPD with no tweaking necessary (well, unlike my GEIL's ULTRA PLATINUM 3500's which newegg just replaced - the replacement GEIL PC3500 GOLDEN DRAGONS seems to work fine so far)..
