Anyone have hands-on experience with this phone?

HTC Mogul

I'm thinking of getting this phone. I read the reviews, but I'm curious if anyone has any firsthand info.

Yes I've had mine now for about 2-3 weeks. So far I like it a lot, at some points in time it can seem laggy but then again it is a windows based phone so a restart now and then helps with performance.

the Qwerty keyboard is awesome for texting, and/or writing emails. I can type about 3-4 times faster on this than a regular phone. also the touch screen seems very nice, I can usually navigate with my finger even though I have big fingers (I usually use the very very tip part of my finger along with my fingernail).

The one main gripe I have is that I do have some trouble hearing some people with road noise and/or with a crowded area. I believe there is a setting on the service menu where you can ramp up the volume to the speaker. I have yet to try that but I do have the method of getting the MSL code and unlocking the device service menu, If you need help with that I also created a thread here that has a few different methods of obtaining the MSL code to unlock the service menu on the phone.

Also, there is a slight problem with hearing yourself echoed in the earpiece of the phone when talking into the microphone. This problem is solved by taking the microphone part of the phone away from your mouth.

Yeah, the feel of the keyboard on the demo model in the store I was at is incredible. It is WAY better than any other phone keyboard I have ever felt.

My first impression was that it was going to take forever to get used to because I was so used to sending and receiving anywhere from 1-3 thousand texts per month from a regular phone keypad. The Qwerty keyboard on this one is quite easy to use, and after a while I definitely got used to those function and caps lock keys. The symbols are sometimes hard to find because some of them are not used on a daily basis but that's a pretty minor problem.

My brother has the mogul, I guess its ok. Its rather cluncky I felt, and to me it seemed like the slide out thing could break after a while. It was kind of laggy..i don't know I wasn't very impressed.

I just got the touch last week...no qwerty keyboard but i am pretty fast with the virtual one....

Yeah, the Touch looks nice, but I would rather have a real keyboard.

I used to have a sort of TMobile equivalent, they called it the Wing but it look very similar to that phone.

I just sold it because I got sick of it. It was cool at first, but Windows was so slow doing anything. Sliding out the phone took way too much time for the screen to flip then it should have. While the touch screen was nice it was definitely made to use the stylus as using my finger to close a box or check my voicemail usually instigated some other unwanted action. Overall the phone was big and clunky. I couldn't fit it in my pocket without looking weird. I also thought I would all of the features more then I actually did. I canceled the mobile web a week in after I realised using my own internet was much quicker then same goes for the wifi.

But if you surely intend to use all of the features it provides then it's a good phone, but if all you basically do is phone and text then it's way too much phone ofr that, you will end up getting sick of it quick.

Another thing that really irked me is the camera use. If I didn't use it after a reboot it normally would always give me the error that there wasn't enough memory for it to run and to close more programs. Well all programs were closed except the camera and this is what I got.

The Mogul has a 400Mhz processor while the Wing has a 200MHz processor (I think). So that's not really a valid comparison. The Mogul is much faster than the Wing. The Wing has a lot better battery life though.

Just got it.
First impressions:
Seems solid, feels good in your hand.
Battery cover (the whole back) is very flimsy.
Keyboard sliding action is much smoother than I thought it would be.
Overall it looks nice.

i had the att version the 8525 for a year. the slide feature work flawlessly everytime and didn't loosen over time. the only thing that i kinda disliked about it was the thickness of the device. so i switch with my brother gave him the 8525 (he loves it) took his krzr...which i will now be upgrading to a Moto Q...all the reviews are good and the device weighs practically nothing compared to the 8525. also having GPS is just icing on the cake.
