Anyone have hamsters? I have a question to ask

Last night I discovered my gf's hamster was missing a leg. It looked like it'd been chewed off:shocked:, we suspect it was the other hamster, it's pretty aggresive. Other than the missing leg he seems to be fine otherwise, he was even using the little wheel in it's cage.

The other hamster is in another cage at the moment, kind of worried it's gone cannibalistic.

Has anyone else seen this type of behaviour in hamsters?

Sorry no pics till tonight.

Hamsters sometimes eat their own young I believe - so your cannibalistic hamster is a likely possibility.

Well, that certainly isn't going to make me feel better about the two hamsters my wife bought for our son last night....

The male will eat the young while the female tries to find for their lives. Pretty grusome seeing this first hand (thankfully we were able to stop the ordeal). But yes it is possible that the other bit its leg in a "argument"

i heard rabbits sometimes chew the testicles of other rabbits for competition of females. Could hamsters do this?
