Anyone have good experiences with the 9700 yet?

I've not heard anything possitive yet. All the posts seem to be about problems. I'm thinking of waiting for the NV30 if this keeps up.

Really? Where have you heard all the problems with the ATI 9700 pro? Here on the anandtech forum or no?

Just a post or 2 on several forums. Little stuff like no text in a couple games. I guess it will be a few days before most people get their boards.

If you had it and it was working great would you take the time to post to say how great it was?

silentScope and Entropy have a very valid point. how many threads on the first page of this forum are praising their video cards vs. how many are saying they have a problem. and they are both ati and nvidia cards.

OK. Let me rephrase my question: Does anyone have this card yet and does it spank ass like the reviews indicate? Have you personally had any problems?

From the few posts I've seen on AT regarding the R9700 most people seem to be quite happy with the board, in fact I recall one person mentioning he'd bought 3 of them to spread around his systems.
I have seen a small handful of posts of people with problems, but not many. Most specifically I've seen a number of people comment about issues with BF1942.

That said, only a relatively small number of people have the board as yet. I don't believe I've seen enough commentary to attept to estimate the consensus opinion on the reliability of the R9700.

I guess I should wait a week or two when a lot more people get their cards and see what they have to say. Thanks everyone.

Because I've had every line of Geforce cards since the very first one and have not had a single problem with any of them. Driver updates are regular also.

I bought a Radeon 9700 on Friday.

I was upgrading from a GF4 Ti4600. To make a very long story short: My Ti4600 is now back in my machine.

I have all standard Intel equip:

2.53 P4 (533)
850EMV2 motherboard

I am not overclocking. My Radeon 9700 kept locking up during 3DMark2001SE (Build 330). It would lock in different places. It was not a cooling issue. The card is OK, because I tested it in my other machine where I have a 845BG motherboard. It completed 3DMark2001 just fine with that motherboard. But for some reason, it locks up with the 850EMV2. I took out my soundcard, disabled the LAN on the motherboard, did a CLEAN fresh install of XP with just the Intel Chipset and ATI drivers (CD version and the leaked version that is going around). No luck. The thing hates 3DMark2001. Pretty sad when it won't even work with the #1 benchmarking program.

I have read other posts where users have had lockup problems in 3DMark2001 (as well as a slew of games). But they seem to be related to Athlon chipsets. I was very surprised to see that I could not get it to work with this Intel combo.

Huh? a buttload of problems?, actually most of the problems are with just a few games, with many people reporting problems with the same game. The biggest complaint is with the BF1942 demo, which IMO has game play/interface issues anyhow.

fraXis, I would definately report your info to Ati. Funny it would'nt do 3dmark.

I know, strange huh? Especially since it is the same config that Anand used to test his 9700. I even use the 1066mhz RDRAM which I thought might be the problem until I read that he used it also with his 850EMV2 and 9700 in his review.

Except for the B1942 text problem I have yet to have a true issue with my cards. I have played well over two dozen games in several different machine configurations without an issue. All of the graphic/video/audio applications I have used did not generate an issue. The card is very solid and the drivers are decent for a first release. ATI has already identified several game issues in varying systems that will be corrected shortly. It is hard for me to get excited about a card not working properly on early beta game demos. I trust upon release that the issues will be resolved quickly if required, if not I will go back to a company that can do it. As a side note the B1942 text issue does not occur on two of my systems so it is more than a driver issue.

Just wondering about Medal of Honor, does the 9700 do MOH well? I'm a MOH addict, if it works with MOH its pretty much a done deal for me, I'm gonna snag it.

Maybe I'll get lucky (yeah right, computers hate me).

I have one. It owns. One of these days(if I ever have a day off work) I will run a full benchmark suite and let you boys know the result. All I've run so far is Q3 1024x768 - 230fps, and Q3 1024x768 w/ full AA and Ansio, 162 fps. And, as much as I hate this benchmark, I'm sure you all want to know, my 3DMark is 12930.

Actually, now that I think about it. Most of the problems might be with that game because that's what everyone's playing right now... I'll have to make some posts telling the results of my new system once I get everything put together -- it'll most likely be something like, "It didn't post..." knowing my luck. :)

I have one, but I really haven't tested it yet, because I can't stop playing Madden. No problems running 3DMark 2001se though.
