look the other way....spend the extra few bucks for Corsair XMS, Kingston HyperX, or OCZ EL Platinum. Will pay off in the long run.

Anyone else using Geil Ultra Platinum pc3500? I'm close to picking up a 512MB stick.

From alot of what I've seen to get good results out of Geil stuff you need to be able to feed it insane voltage. From what I've seen anywhere from 2.9 up to 3.1. So if you board will only let you go to 2.8 or so you might want to look at another brand.

OK... I'm 2 hours away from ordering 1GB of Geil Ultra PC3500 Dual Channel memory from Egghead. Any last minute comments or pleas? Oh yeah, I'll be running this on an Abit IC7 with 2.4B cpu if it makes a difference.

Yeah, I've seen quite a few threads regarding the older Geil memory that were pretty bad. But all of the review for the new PC3500 Ram have been stellar! So has anyone been brave enough to order and use this stuff yet? I'm holding off my order until tomorrow.

Have you guys actually used this memory, or are you basing your hatred of Geil only on what you've read about their older RAM? Trust me, I've been a long time Corsair fan, and have a hard time buying any other brand, but the reviews of Geil's PC3500 just kick A$$.

With geil you usually seem to get an incredible stick or one that's a flaming peice of crap. Therefore not all geil is bad stuff. Just most people don't want to take the chance. Same thing with OCZ.

I don't understand why you are so hellbent on getting GEIL even after everyone has told you it sucks.

It's all about the money! I can get 1GB of Dual Channel PC3500 Geil for $210 shipped. None of the other brands can compete with that.

Oh yeah... I've also been told that I like to be beaten. ;)

Go to outpost.com and get a gig of HyperX PC3500 for 226 (rough guess on shipping) shipped. Imo it's worth the extra $16 to know what you're getting.

OK. Now we're getting somewhere. The HyperX does look like a good buy for only $16 more. I'll be running this in a Canterwood motherboard. Do you think I'll run into problems since the 2 Kingston sticks are dual channel specific? Also, have you had any problems setting the memory timings more aggresively than 2-4-4-8? Thanks for all of your quick responses.

I don't know why you'd have problems with the HyperX in dual channel. As far as timing I've got my two 512 sticks at 440 @ 2 3 3 6

That's all I needed to see. I've just read quite a few reviews on the HyperX, and they all look good as well. It supposedly OC's well with agressive timings like yours. So the best Price Performer is HyperX? Thanks for you help.

EDIT: Thanks to everyone for their responses. I've just bought 512MB of PC3500 HyperX.

I bought the Dual Channel PC3500 (the chips are labeled Ultra Platinum PC3500 - 2 x 512MB - came in a cool neon plastic box) GEIL from newegg.. Can't seem to get them to run on my D865PERLK mainboard from intel (dual channel) at SPD, had to force it to manual and set it to CAS 2.5 8-3-3

Oh well.. At least they work now.

I'm having some troubles with instability, but I can't be 100% certain it's the RAM. I have 512MB (2 DIMMs) of Geil Ultra Platinum PC3500. You can check out my thread here. I'm expecting my Corsair (1GB PC3200 CL2) to arrive either tonight or Monday, and I can let you know if Geil was the problem then. I wish I would have seen this before you bought that RAM. I could've helped you.

i have 2 sticks of pc3500 Ultra Platinums, they are great, they've been good to me =)

tho the highest i've at these babies on are 185 DDR and THE most aggresive timings. I just recently got my NF7-S v2.0 MB and i'm gonna see how far i can push these babies with my t-bred a. =) i'll post up results later.

the great thing about these sticks of ram are the lifetime warrantee, the ability to overclock higher then all the higher priced brands, and they don't put that big of a dent in ur wallet =) hope this helps.

Good luck with your Geil memory guys. I was talked in to picking up HyperX, and I'm glad I did. It runs very well at high speed and tight timings. It sounds like it's hard to push the Geil with tight timings @ 433MHz.

well the geil, has pretty aggresive, but laxed timings on 433, cas2, 3, 3 so at that speed, it's pretty impressive. but i'll be doing some tweaking tonight, so i hope all will be well =)
