Almost all Dental carriers exclude this as a covered service under their plans. All oral surgery pertaining to this is also not covered.

LoseLose for our loss ratios.

I wish I did not have that knowledge. Boy, working in insurance is really cool!

my old gf had this, her jaw would lock open every once in a while, it was teh funnay.

i should have taken advantage of it more often...:D

sometimes it's not really TMJ, either way it's not good to keep 'doing' it if you can avoid it.

There is surgery for the most crippling conditions, but to avoid that route (it can progress):

Avoid gum, hard breads, large 'mouthfuls', anything that causes the jaw to 'click' or 'lock' or 'flex', look into a bite plate if teeth grinding is aggravating it.

I have a TMJ like condition that's minor, but when I was a kid I kept getting migraines. Doctors did the CT scans, MRI's, etc and found nothing....I brought it up to my MD and he verified my condition was not TMJ, but could definitely be triggering the migraines.
