Anyone have experience with the Samsung 172T LCD Monitor? Or Samsung's warranties on LCD's?

Nice site :) I like the idea of the extended warranty for lcd monitors, except reading through I found it very hard to determine what is and is not covered, especially in reference to pixel burnout. Is it just a longer manufacturer warranty, or is there additional coverage provided?

Other then that, I'd definitely consider your company, assuming you deliver to Canada, if you carried that monitor I was interested in :)

Cheers,

Hey Chito

I work for Staples up here in Canada and I find that their warranty specifies a specific number of pixels have to be burnt out before they repair/replace (more likely) your screen for you. For Toshiba laptops, the magic number is 14 (up to 15"), I believe it'll be a similar number for LCD monitors. They won't replace it for you for just one or two, but as long as it's a noticeable patch I believe they will do for you.

Staples does give you the option to extend the 3 year warranty that comes with all Samsung LCDs, same for FutureShop as well.

Duken, I actually used to work for Future Shop and I love the idea of the extra coverage on things like LCD Screens. In fact, I'd go in to either Future Shop or Staples to buy right now, if they carried the monitor I was interested in.

At this point, it looks like I'll be buying from one of the smaller computer stores, since they can order the monitor in for me. If I go this way, I'm gonna go with one of the more reputable ones, so I don't have to worry too much about servicing, tho I much prefer the security of a larger retail outlet for purchases such as this.

As far as I know, the 172T has not been released in the US/Canada yet. Give it time.

Mwave.com expects it to be in stock by 9/27/02.

Our guarantee states that we will take the unit back for any reason plain and simple, thus no reference to dead pixels. Sorry we cannot ship outside the U.S. at this time.
