Anyone have experience with multiple burners?

I'm thinking of adding a second CD-R to my setup for doing multiple copies. I currently have a Plextor 8x/20x scsi and was thinking of adding either another 10x or 12x scsi burner. I only have a Maxtor 46gb 5400rpm hard drive and I'm worried that my hard drive bandwidth won't be sufficient for using both CD-Rs at the same time. What do you guys think? I know that one easy solution will be to add another smaller hard drive to my system and using a separate hard drive for each CD-R, but that's just another added cost. Any other solutions will be much appreciated.

If you are going to be recording the same thing to both recorders, then surely HD bandwidth doesn't matter, becuase it only needs to be loaded once, and then sent to both recorders.

Surely, if you are serious about multiple burners, the thing to do would be to test the 2 burners with your current drive, only if it doesn't work, should you go and upgrade it.

BTW, what software do you plan on using? - I only know of Nero and Feurio as packages with multiple recorder support (they are both outstanding programs though).

As long as you a have a defragmented hard drive, with SCSI, I doubt you will have any buffer underrun problems assuming you configured software correctly. Your big Maxtor drive can supply enough sequential transfer rate to keep both drives fed. Of course, only way to know for sure is try it out.

Maybe you can borrow a friend's external CDR and give it a shot.

I have 2 Yamaha SCSI CDRW's a 4416s internal and a 8424s external and using Nero I regularly burn 2 CDRW disks simultaneously without any problems at 4x. Having burned my fingers with a bad CDRW burn I now always backup important data onto 2 CDRW's.
