Anyone have experience with IPS monitors?

This does not have the same gamut as the higher priced IPS panels, but it is still a major upgrade from a TN panel IMO. Asus has a great warranty on their monitors too. I think this is an excellent choice unless you're doing professional work that requires a high degree of color accuracy.

Also, that is a very good price for that particular model.

Would you recommend matte or glossy if I am working indoor mostly?

I found this funny on that product page:

Product Alert:IPS (In-Plane-Switching) is a new technology for LCD displays that offers users wider viewing angles and bolder colors by allowing more light to pass through the panel. As a result, IPS panels can exhibit a slight glow around the edges and corners (also known as light bleed), which is entirely normal.

That's a great price. There's more to it than just the display technology (TN vs. P/MVA vs. IPS, etc.) - type of backlighting, response time, etc. You can literally spend hours researching all of the different advantages and disadvantages.

At the end of the day, it's a nice monitor.

I have a pair of IPS LCDs at work and they kick the shit out of my regular TNs at home...work ones were much more expensive though.

Alright cool!

How would you decide on the dual monitor arrangement then?

Do you like the blacks on the monitor to be opaque, or do you like the blacks to be a mirror?

Personally I hate the blacks being a mirror and as such will not ever have a glossy screen 🙂

I've got a Dell U2412M, which was a big upgrade from the 2405FPW, in terms of viewing angle, color reproduction, and evenness of tone.

I did exactly the same upgrade last year with sales at the time. The 2405FPW did serve me well since 2006.

Does this look good?

It is at a pretty good price, and it has a high rating.

What do you guys think? Pretty affordable for an IPS monitor.

I think I have the previous version of that, it's pretty good. However, there's better technology out now for only a little more - for an extra $50, you can get an AH-IPS screen:

AH-IPS is the latest generation of IPS (came out in 2011):

IPS panels are great if you're doing color work. I use it primarily for color grading video footage off my laptop (my laptop's screen is not accurate). If you're using it for gaming, keep in mind that IPS screens are usually laggy; TN screens are faster, but IPS monitors give you better color & viewing angles.

Yep! Have had mine since 2005 or 2006 as well, and it's still doing daily duty as the "monitor on the left."

My phone has a S-IPS panel. My tablet has an IPS panel. My IIyama X2377HDS LCD monitor has an IPS panel. I think IPS is great. I cannot notice anything negative.
However, as others have mentioned, when you are planning to game with that monitor, compare the response time of the monitor. And i do not know if ghosting can still occur with a ips monitor.
