Anyone have experience with color laser printers? What models and manufactures do you recommend and what options should I make sure to get? I am looking for something that can do professional color high quality handouts and overheads.

i'm a dumb kid, but our HP LJ4500 at work has alot of miles on it and still very fast and almost photo quality. Have not had to have it serviced much either (I don't work on printers, too many parts for me :) )
The toners for it wear out fast though and run about $80 per toner per color. And the drum kits are pretty high too.

We have the 8500 at work, and its pretty good though
we had a few problems with it - our main problem is toner
its expensive. The other one is ofcourse print speed. Make sure you get something
with enough RAM to do complex prints - this is what slows us down-Not enough memory.

As for print quality its good. Maintanence is minimal, apart from the toner cartridge, which lasts about 1000-2500 full color pages. We did have a drum error which HP came by and fixed for free.

We have a Tektronic 740 and it works very well (for half a department, used VERY frequently). I don't do the maintenance but would highly recomend it for the print quality.

I have an older HP Color LJ 5M at work that's still humming along. Filling one of the color toners is cool ... if you don't get blue, err, cyan, powder everywhere! :p

take a look at the tektronic phser 850 series. We got one at work and it is pretty damn nice. does 1200*600 DPI using solid ink. Pumps out 10 Pages per minute in color, and I not kiding on that either. Our poor printer already has 5000+ page prints in its short two month life. Oh, supplies are cheap, little solid blocks of wax, which they give the black ones for free. Check it out.
