Anyone have experience with Asus U3S6 PCI-E Card?

I want to get a PCI-E card that has USB 3.0 ports in the back (at least 2, but preferably 4) and 2 or more internal Sata 3.0 (6Gbps) ports.

The Asus U3S6 (http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=lGYmelQ8mJvPtYTv) seems to have what I'm looking for but there are many bad reviews about it. It's $50 @ Microcenter and $40 @ Amazon (unavailable).

Are there any other cards like these out there? USB 3.0 is becoming popular and I want to be able to use such devices (especially my external HDDs which are USB 3.0) in the future since my MoBo (Asus P6T7) does not have USB 3.0 natively.

If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

I have one sitting right here that I used for one day and removed it.

It's that bad. 😀

I think I've seen USB3 expansion cards but I use eSATA and consider USB3 a waste.

Mine is in the drawer too. The chip on there really lowers performance on sata III. Get a simple USB 3.0 card instead.

Can you suggest a really good USB 3.0 card? The thing is, I have very few PCI-E slots left. I have just one actually so I want to make the best of it. I plan to get Sata 3 SSDs later this year.

I mainly want the USB 3.0 for my external HDD..

Like USB2 expansion cards I can't imagine there being that much difference between brands.

I see USB3 cards between 20 and 30 dollars everywhere.

On the other hand, I had to spend 200.00 for a decent SATA6Gbs expansion card.

I haven't seen any tests on the new Intel or AMD SATA6Gbs ports but AMD has been behind the eight ball for anything SATA-wise and Marvell isn't in the ballgame either.

If you're wanting SATAIII/6Gbs speeds prepare yourself for an upgraded MB or 200.00 card. 🙂

I don't mind paying for a high quality card... the main thing is I want to have USB 3.0 functionality as well.. is there a card that has both USB 3.0 & Sata 3.0? This is because I don't have too many PCI-E slots left.

so this basically means that the overall performance is better on the "inferior" sata2 but if your workload is light and read oriented (like games) then you would get some use out of the asus card. That highly threaded performance though is really sad.

I wonder would these newer drivers and especially the newer firmwares change anything http://www.station-drivers.com/page/marvell.htm

My french is not so good though and the google translate is dodgy at best...

The only improvement with the Asus card is sequential reads which is a minor overall plus.

Sequential reads are used very little in desktop systems.

Yes, but games use them when loading levels, right?

I should probably dig up my stopwatch...

however would you guys agree that in my case it is not the asus board that is at fault when observing the 4k performance, especially the highly threaded performance ? but that this is more related to the drive itself?

I'm really not sure what you're trying to find out but you need to put anything else in your thread.

Unless the OP (Baasha) needs anything else I'm done here.

I have the exact same asus card and I'm trying to find out if my poor 4k performance is related to using this card. And this thread was about u3s6...:\
