my bill seems insane... $94 a month for cable (not digital) and internet. People w/ dsl around here are paying 29.99 or so for internet... I'm thinking of calling and threatening to cancel...


problem is I don't have or want a home phone... so switching to dsl isn't really convenient.

theres nothing around in portland that will reach the cable speed of 8mb, but damn is it expensive $60


if there was another alternative, i would switch in a heartbeat
 
I know if you threaten to cancel you can get 'em to give you 19.99 internet for 6 months, but I've never had any luck with the tv service.

Sounds like cable is still cheaper than DSL for you considering you need a phone line for DSL.

Now that Verizon is rolling out FIOS in my area my cable company is suddenly ready to offer reduced prices with a one year contract. I'm tempted to take them up on the offer, I can get 7/1 cable for about the same price as 5/2 FIOS.

I pay Cox $99.95 per month for:

Digital Cable
Digital Phone Service (1 hour free long distance)
Internet Connection

I'm happy with my deal. 🙂
 
I did that one year before cancelling and switching over to Dish. They reduced my bill (Basic Cable + HSI for $84) to Digital Cable+HBO+HSI for 60 bucks for a year.

Yeah, it's easy. I got my internet for $30 for 1 year from them. Just call and say you want to cancel cable since DSL has this deal...
 
I have comcast here, and with Digital Classic cable package w/ 6mbps; I am sharing the cost of $60 between 1 roommate.

The 6mbps is amazingly fast compared to the damn crippled on campus network.

upload is a paultry 384kbps though.
 
My gf flirted with the cable guy and got a discount. She got creeped out though when he said he was a photographer and asked if she wanted to come over to take pics.
 
I pay $125/mnth for internet, HD cable, and HBO.

The only deal I ever got from them was I got them to do their "install" for free when I moved across town. THat was only because they never told me on the phone and I complained. I am moving again in August and this time Im going to tell them I want free install or I am canceling and getting DirectTV. We'll see how that goes.
