Nothing much you can do ... besides your postcount at the time of this post is 666 if that means anything.

Payment plan, call up the billing dept, work something out. You got healed, you got bette (right?), then you owe something? The price of your health at the moment you went to the ER didnt mean much compared to how much you were valuing your life.

But I see your point, $900+ for a short visit, perhaps you should ask for an itemized listing?

Somebody explain why the ER over the summer was $300 (before what insurance covered) for essentially the same type of visit. Same amount of time spent. No tests in either visit... I see you boys over there waving at each other, giving each other handjobs, whatever... That's cute, but no need to rub my face in the fact that i don't have insurance - "deal with it bitch"? I never said i was not going to pay any of it...

"No I cannot and will not pay that bill." There you go.

BTW as for differences in two bills did you go to a public or private hospital each time?

Like i said, "long story short"... I knew going in that i'd be paying 200-300 so it's not like it was some minor sore throat. I couldn't really just 'sac up and deal with it'... I'd been dealing with it for a few days already before i went in. This is sort of what mine looked like, only a little bigger, a little uglier...

Oh and i guess i can mention that I just recently moved so I hadn't really scoped out the doctor office scene yet....
In 1978 I tore the MCL (in half) and the cartilage in my left knee. I walked on it for 6 weeks because I didn't have health insurance. When my knee started locking up and causing me to fall to the ground and thrash about in pain, I gave up and went to the doctor. Surgery and 4 weeks of physical therapy later, I was out $3000. (Thank god it was 1978) I didn't like paying it but I did.
In 1983, while stationed at FT Sill, OK I got strep throat so bad that I couldn't even swallow liquids. For 3 days previous to that I couldn't even swallow solid food. That's when I told the Drill Sergeant and went to the doctor. I ended up having strep throat and pneumonia and I was hospitalized. Suffice to say the Drill Sergeant wasn't pleased with me.
In 1986 I had a 105 degree fever and was hallucinating at a rail yard in Germany (still in the Army) while we were loading armored personal carriers on rail cars. I still didn't go to the doctor because that's not what men do.
If the bone is sticking out, you go to the doctor.

Lets see... Roper Hospital is a non-profit hospital. I don't think they are concerned with making money. More like breaking even.

People often say that.. So if these.. 'terrorists' are so scared of the USA attacking them if they mess with Canada, why do they straight up attack the US?

#1. We are not rubbing your face in it. I would hate that bill too, and it really sucks. But YOU chose to go to the Emergency Room, YOU chose to not have insurance, YOU chose to post about it here, and finaly, YOU chose to say you are not going to pay it because it is too much for the work done, even though YOU have NO CLUE what hospital's bills are. Sure are a lot of bad choices in that one paragraph.

#2 You said in the 13th post from the top of this page that you were not going to pay the bill. Like I said, you need a brain transplant. I will gladly pay for some of the procedure.

#3. Your choices = You deal with it. it is part of being an adult. Welcome to the real world where people accept the conequences they sow.

"Columbo would tell me that you are probably a doctor..."

Well you and Columbo would both be wrong. I am a full time college student who works part-time or fill-in for the Birmingham News as a distributor. My major is not in anything that relates to medicine. I am majoring in something that prevents idiots like you from killing each other or stealing everything that isn't tied down.

Because we are seen as the defenders of people smaller than us. Also as the bully of the world. Take your pick, both say we get hit, not canada. Since we have our fingers in so many places, people and nations take offence to that. *shrugs* Honestly, I don't diss Canada. Canada is more like the USA's little brother. I just like messing with you, same as most others.

Hypothetical situation: You go into Home Depot to buy a screw. A small one. you need one, but they are only in 10 packs for $1.19. Amy person can see that there is maybe 3 cents worth of steel in the screws total. so where do they get off charging $1.19 for the screws! Hell! I will just steal them because they are obviously ripping me off.

Well, here is why they are $1.19

#1 pay for the raw material
#2 pay for the machines that turn the raw material into a screw.
#3 pay for the people who watch those machines, and fix them when they break.
#4 pay for the packaging the screws are in
#5 pay for the shipping to a warehouse (unless it is onsite)
#6 pay for the warehouse itself
#7 pay for shipping to distributor
#8 pay for the distributor's workforce
#9 pay for the distruibutor's warehouse
#10 pay to ship to Home Depot
#11 pay for home depot to put it on the rack
#12 pay for home depot employees to know what the screws are used for
#13 pay for the Home Depot building
#14 pay for the people like you who decide to steal it instead of pay for it
#15 pay for the cart you put the item into.
#16 pay for the cashier to ring it up.
#17 pay for the bag the cashieer puts the item into.
#18 pay for the insurance tghat covers you if you get run over in the parking lot.

Now you know why the damn screw is $1.19. Medical stuff is the same way. Get over it.

Don't like it? don't go. or be smart and spend $100 a month on some cheap health insurance. (my plan is $270 a month, with 90% of everything covered including 100% of emergency room visits )

You are being a little b!tch.

I really hate telling you this in this manor, but you really pissed me off. and I am a hard man to piss off. Do you think I want to pay your bill? well, if you do not, everyone here will be footing a portion of it. I for one say, "Screw you!"

Damn my monitor is smoking!!!!

I give that rant a 8.5 on the Rant Scale.

Dolemite, I'd like to forewarn you that $1015.30 is just the first bill. Expect the bill for the doctor's services at a couple hundred bucks.

I'll throw this out here for discussion. Do you think that the hospital should make a patient aware of the cost if the problem is not life threating or the patient is not unconsious(sp?). Personally I think most of this cost is for paying the doctors malpratice insurance, which I think there need to be a cap on what people can sue for. Evadman and Millenium, did y'all get out of the wrong side of the bed? ;)

You DONT go to the ER for minor medical stuff if you are not on an insurance plan. ER visits run $500-1000. Its NOT a Drs Visit. Its an ER, ERs see more than just minor medical crap. You should have went to a Dr, it would have cost $50. You were stupid to go to the ER, you not only wasted your time and money, but you wasted theirs as well.
