just wondering what it's actually like in practice.

I need a solution to get my xbox connected to my router without running a cable across the floor of my apartment from my living room to my bedroom and I'm debating the pros and cons of using either EoP or a wireless bridge (both would end up being about the same price (EoP vs bridge)

understand there is the possibility that being in an apartment, that anyone else with one of those adapter might be able to hop right on your network.

Depending on how your house or apartment is wired, neighbors could theoretically plug a compatible powerline networking device into their outlet and be on your network. That's why all powerline networking gear either requires pairing via physical buttons on each device, or includes an optional encryption scheme, similar to that used with Wi-Fi, that will prevent anyone from jumping on your network ? even if you're on the same circuit.

Yeah that is a major downside of the devices. Also if a neighbor is using a similar device you might have total chaos getting it to work.

If you own the home you can get a device to block the signal from leaving the mains where a neighboring house could also get the signal if they were on the same side of the step down transformer from the power company.
