why waste money on those stupid books. i am sure if we combine our experiences we can come up with some good strategies...

uHm...how about these two questions to start it off:

what day of the week is the best day to sell an item?
what time of the day is the best time to sell an item?

i usually sell on tue/wed at around 7 - 8 pm pst. how bout you guys?

I usually start/end mine around 8pm eastern. I usually always use a buy it now price, and if I really want to sell it fast, I just make the buy it now price the same as the starting bid, hence first bid wins.

it depends on what items you are listing.
for example, if I list games, household product, etc, I end my auction on Sunday because
usually children (who are interested in game) or housewife buy things on Sunday when it's time to relax and
browse the internet. I never end my auction on Friday or Saturday though.
Otherwise for computer stuff, I end my auction on Tuesday/ Wednesday at 9pm ET.
I also look at my competitors end date/time. if there are too many auctions end at the same time then I
try to change mine to different dates

The only auctions I run for 7 days are for things I think I'll have a very hard time selling. For a good item you'll do just as well with 3 or 5.

I also try to answer the majority of generic questions in the auction. Things like:

1) Why I am selling it.
2) How long I have owned it.
3) Whether or not I am the original owner.
4) A good description of its condition if it is used.
etc...

I think people are more likely to bid immediately if their questions are answered without having to contact me. Also I find people are unlikely to go back into ebay and bid on an item if they have left by the time I answer their questions: especially if the item I am selling is in abundance.
