I got the wife the VX8600, she's pretty happy with it. The menu lags a bit. The glossy black finish is damn sexy.

For folks who don't want to buy ringtones from VZW, just send an email with your mp3 or wav as an attachment to yournumber@vzwpix.com.

Once you receive it on the phone, just save it. Bingo, free ringtone.

Haha nice! Does it scratch easy? I'm a big fan of those invisibleshields, but the finish is awfully nice to be covered by a clear sticker...

My GF just go thte VX8600 and I was using it for 2 days (it was actually me who had to order it cause I'm the #1 phone on the family plan, and she ordered the VX8300 and we swapped the numbers between our phones after a few days cause we had planned to do so).

I really do like the phone. It's very slick and I liked how it fits in my front pocket and does not buldge at all. It has a pretty damn good battery life (we didnt charge it for 3-4 days and it was on the whole time). It also is very comfortable and just all around looks very sleek.

The only downsides I have with it are ...

1. I would sometimes push a button and it would also press the one next to it. The buttons do not stick out and are more like just on a flat surface.
2. It does not have speaker phone - it's just something I wanted with my new phone.

After using her's for a while, I was very VERY tempted to pay the $80 extra and trade in my VX8300 for it, but I decided to keep the VX8300 cause it has the speaker phone and it does what I need it to do.

If you want a phone with a functional interface (and real buttons), get the VX8300. I hate the membrane based keys on the Razors, Chocolates, VX8600's, ect...

I want a phone that is good to use...not look good using. :p

The VX8600 has speakerphone according to Verizon...click on the features button here.

Ah okay, well your link doesnt work but I went and checked it, you are right.

I'm not sure how to use it though, it's not as obvious as the VX8300 was.

Then I gues it was just the trade off of pushing the wrong buttons and having a nicer looking phone, or not spending an extra $80 and using a phone that works just as good.

I went w/the latter and I'm happy with it.

lol the more I research the more I think I should just stay with my v710...right now I am looking at the VX8600 and that nice Samsung with the big buttons. I get a free $100 credit towards a phone since my "new every 2" will be up soon, so if I don't like the one I get I can always go back to my v710 :p

If you can get the VX8600 for free pretty much, I'd do it. If I coulda traded in my 8300 to get the 8600 for free, hell ya I woulda done it. But it would have costed me $80 more to do it, so it wasn't worth it for me considering the 8300 is fine.

Yeah it will cost me $30. I'm sure I can get at least that for my v710.

Yah that's how much it was for us for the main phone to be upgraded ($180 - $100 2 year savings - $50 instant savings), then we got another for $50 ($100 phone - $50 instant savings) for upgrading the second phone.

That was for the 8600 and the 8300. I'd definitely say the 8600 is worth the $30.

While I've never owned an LG Chocolate, I can say for certain after holding it in my hands yesterday that it feels like cheap plastic junk ... also I HAVE owned 3 LG phones & while they were chock-full of gee-wiz features, all three had so-so reception & two of the three broke within a couple months ... replaced the last one with a Motorola v265 (which my daughter now has) ... & its lasted through two years of brutal abuse still working flawlessly.

Nokia phones perform very well but tend to be fragile, Samsung is pretty good & a HUGE step up in quality from LG, however I've yet to find a phone that beats Motorola overall, especially when it comes to reception in weak signal areas (although I'm not crazy about the film-type buttons myself) ... my "new every 2" is up now & frankly I couldn't find a Verizon phone that motivated me enough to replace my e815.

So essentially you have zero experience using the LG chocolate. Holding and touching does not equal actual usage.

Kaido - if you can get the phone cheap, do it. I paid almost full retail for it.

True, but my real-life experience with LG phones has been shall we say less then positive & I wouldn't buy another phone from them, especially one that felt like it was made of the same quality plastic as a $5 made-in-China childs toy! (and has dial buttons sized for a childs fingers!)

Also the guys in the tech-support department in the Verizon store agreed with me ... the phone has a very high return rate because the flimsy plastic slider breaks frequently & the software has frequent problems as well.

Right now it's between the VX8600 and the Samsung. I'm not crazy about the Samsung's outer screen though, the OLED thing, as far as caller ID/time/date goes. The VX8600 will be $30 and the Samsung will be free. If I get the VX8600 and don't like it, I can always sell it and pick up a Samsung for $50. My contract is up in late April, so I've got some time to shop around and also see if any new phones come out. I really want the iPhone, but I'm not willing to buy first generation hardware, so I'll wait a couple years for it to be perfected and for them to break the Cingular exclusivity ;)

The LG VX8600 flip does away with my concerns regarding the flimsy slider mechanism which according to Verizon tech-support is the main reason the phones get returned and does away with the tiny keypad so I'd guess its a better choice... as long as you have the option to return it, you might as well give it a try. (although personally I still would go with Samsung or Motorola instead because they just seem to be higher quality)

I've owned literally about 25 different cell phones ranging from briefcase sized monsters, to the first flip-phones to the latest "do-everything" models & the best by far were Motorola & Toshiba (Audiovox) ... Nokia phones have also performed well for me but I've had 2 of them break after being dropped once so unless they've become more durable I'd take a pass.

I dropped by Circuit City after work today; they have a Verizon kiosk inside the store. I really like how the VX8600 looks, but it has a similar feel to the Razr...a little too wide for my tastes. The buttons I could live with, but they aren't my favorite. I also played with the Samsung 930, but the exterior display really didn't do it for me. No real reason to upgrade from my v710 for that one. The one I liked the most - surprisingly - was the Krzr, the mini razor. It felt really nice in my hand and the buttons seemed a lot nicer than the Razr's, for some reason. I even preferred it over the VX8600's plastic keypad. The sales rep said a lot of people complained about the phone's battery, saying it only lasted a day. Hah, my v710 with extended battery lasts about 2 hours, so that sounds great to me.

So, anyone have a Krzr? :D

I'm not sure about the 8300. As far as specs and reviews go, it's supposedly the one to get, but it's just too round and big for me. I want something I can slip in my pocket easily - I have trouble getting the v710 out around my wallet. I ordered one of those Slimmy wallets off Amazon to help with that, but it'd still be nice to have a slim phone.
