so i install the software from the drivers cd.... i'm wondering, what is this via ide tool program? it doesn't look like it does anything other than identify the devices connected to the ide channels. i mean... if it does not serve any other real purposes, i'm going to nuke it. anyone have any ideas?

I believe you can also manually force the transfer mode into a different mode if you want. All of my devices already use the optimal mode, so I haven't tried it.

it's from the drivers cd that comes with the mobo. i think u can also download it from epox's website.

The IDE Tool came with the older drivers. Win 2K would see the IDE contollers as SCSI controllers and not give you the option to enable or disable UDMA, you would then use the IDE Tool to control the UDMA settings.
