My older brother has a 2004 F150 Lariat V8. 80 bucks every 4 days. Friggin ridiculous. I am trying to convince him to get rid of the damn thing but he won't listen. Given, it has come in handy A LOT of times. But still, too much money on gas.

Anyone else deal with the same crap with your truck?

If its stop go traffic it doesnt matter too much. I'll tell ya that my I-4 ranger only got like 120 miles per tank city driving...high way driving was like 30mpg though.

2004 Yukon XL, takes about 80/week with 100m round trip commute 4x/week
sure comes in handy to tow big V8 with trailer settings. Haven't much choice though need seating for 6, 4x4 with clearance (all nonplowed roads in winter and I'm in the ER so got to be there) and power on the mountains (near appalacian in NJ).

Show him that he could be driving a new(er) car/truck with a 4 CYL engine with the money he would save just in gas and maybe even insurance.

$160 a week x 4 = $624 a month
Find a smaller Import truck that has a 4cyl would cut gas maybe in half so he can buy something new to him for $312 a month or anything found with a lower monthy note and he is ahead of the game and driving something newer and better.

2005 Dodge Dakota /w v8 here...got the $80 a week money sink as well...but i knew i could afford it even if gas reaches $4 a gallon. If your buying a v8 you should know upkeep costs are going to be more than avg. and mine i actually use to haul stuff around like bags of feed and trailers

1999 Chevy Tahoe here.

5.7 liter V8 with 30 gallon tank.

But I don't drive to much so it's not bad, plus I have my motorcycle which is very good on gas.

Yah, I towed trailers with tractors and brushhogs a few times this year and pretty much maxed out on the 9600 lb towing capacity. I wouldn't have been able to get the machine home with a smaller vehicle, the rental place said that they would only allow you to tow this trailer with yukon/tahoe/escalade, or excusion. I think even the expedition wasn't strong enough.

I have a similar situation, but I love my truck too. I think I will just buy another vehicle as my daily driver though... Then I can have my toy and still get to work instead of the poorhouse.

2003 3/4ton avalanche 8.1L v8, with the 30gallon tank, I have about a 10 minute drive each way to work, but I've been on the road for the last month, so I haven't had to fill it. Not really worried about gas prices...yet

Yep. 2005 Expedition 4X4. that thing LOVES gas stations! Fortunately, neither of us work, so it's just used for the daily run-around stuff...to the store, etc. MY work used to require lots of driving/commuting, and this thing would have been spendy to drive (~200 miles/day) I still have my 4cyl/5 speed 96 Dakota that I commuted in for many years, but it's getting prettty worn out with ~215K on the clock. I've been looking at a newer F-150, but haven't decided yet.

I have a Dodge Ram and a Jeep Grand Cherokee, both v8. Luckily me and my wife both live minutes from our jobs.

2002 Chevy Silverado w/5.3L V8 Vortec for me. I dont even care about the gas, i LOVE the convenience of having a truck too much to care. Being able to drag the boat down to our lake place whenever i feel like it is awesome and everything fits in a truck bed ;) I also love the feeling of quiet but ready power you get with a V8. It's like owning a domesticated wolf. There is that tame part of them, but if necessary they can unleash at any moment. Feeling the engine throw you back in your seat as it laughs at the silly laws of friction and inertia cannot be replicated by a 4 cylinder. Even V6's (aka Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo) don't have anywhere near the power to me. Horsepower is great, but torque rules all.

I have a long bed super cab, often pull a trailer and carry material. Spent $560 on gas last month. On the plus side, it's all deductible.

I drive a 1992 GMC Sierra with a 5.7 V8. I usually only drive around town so my typical gas bill is around $40 per week.

I have a Silverado 2500 HD, 8.1 L. V-8.
9 MPG! But it's worth it for a Crew Cab Long bed, drives almost as good as my wifes Caddy (At 25+ MPG!).
Luckily, I only have to drive about 100 miles each way, once a week, plus back and forth to the jobsite from my apt.(Typically)
So I spend about $40 - $50 wk on fuel.

Oh yeah, I get mileage paid on my expense account, so that takes care of my fuel bill +!
