Has anyone shaved their head before? I am considering it but I have very fair skin and am worried that if I shave my head the skin will be dry/sensitive or get razor burn.

I shave every other day. I never have any issues with dry skin or razor burn. I always shave in the shower and after I've showered so that whatever is there is soft. I use my gillette fusion.

I don't have a completely shaved head. I use a 3 up top and a 1 on the sides faded. How about trying a 1 or 2 for awhile to expose the skin, then bic it?

I go no guard. Have taken a bic to it a few times. Only thing to worry about is the tan lines of your hairline. It will be jarring.

i just got a 1 all the way around today. that is the closest i've ever gone. usually i'm like a 2 or so on the side with a little more on top but just decided to get a 1 this morning since it's still summer time and feels cooler. i definitely notice my head is pretty damn shiny under all my hair.

I too am fair skinned and shaven. In the winter time a little Vitamin E oil keeps the dandruff away.

Check out the headblade. Best little hotwheel for your noodle ever.

Yes... I 000 blade it twice a week using a high quality hair clipper. I tried to razor/electric shaver my head twice. It felt terrible. I also tried to use a 0000 blade once. That also did not go well -- hardcore razor burn.

The problem with going too short, like down to skin, was that it turned my head into a giant velcro pad. Taking shirts off was very difficult. And my scalp got completely dried out. I honestly didn't care for the look too much either. Extremely short and completely shaved to skin are, surprisingly, very different looks.

It's also lower maintenance to have a little bit left. That way, if you miss a spot, it isn't as obvious.

P.S. Buy a hat. Flat surfaces get tanned really bad. See noses and shoulders, especially on fair-skinned ladies with tank-tops during the summer.

I have never had a problem with razor burn or irritation. It took about a week for the tan line to fade the first time I shaved my head. It took about 2 weeks to get used to seeing myself in the mirror.

A good clean shave with a nice double edged razor is a beautiful thing. I use an Edwin Jagger with blades from CVS. I have tried fancier blades, but the cheap CVS ones work just as well and even better than some. Depending on time I will use Proraso shave soap or a shave butter for lather.

Shaving my head is one of the best "style" decisions I have made. It took 10 years off my appearance, and women love the look. It sure beats advertising my age with a receding hairline and a balding patch in the back.

To prevent razor burn try using witch hazel after you shave, then use your after shave/moisturizer. Neutrogena has some good lotions/after shaves that also have sunscreen, and you can also try jojoba oil or even aloe gel (without alcohol).

I go to the barbershop to get my head shaved with a straight razor every other week.

my chief problem is scalp oil, which I manage by using an astringent twice/day.

More work than I care for, and if you have some issue half way through, clippers die, you absolutely have to leave then, etc., provides amusement to others, chicks do not dig it.

I used to shave the bottom half of my face when I was like 12-15. But then I grew a beard. I have used a razor on 3 occasions since 1995.

Yes....and I am white as snow.

Edit: OK I cheat, I actually use no attachment on clippers...gives a look that isn't quite bald. Although the cul-de-sacs on my head that are ever-deepening prove that balding can happen naturally :(

shaved for many years, mostly with a gillette (the 3 blade one, before the Fusion). took 2 blades to get through a whole head of hair, and yes i was a bit sore/rashy for the next day, but you'll be ok in a day or so.
protip: dont wash / shampoo first. the natural oils, grease and muck of your scalp are quite good at lubricating / protecting your skin; add shaving gel to the hair, HALF HEAD AT THE TIME, and as little water as you need. DO half head, then repeat.
(make sure to repeat, you'd look silly with half a head of hair)

Ofc, getting your GF to do this for you would be better.

I shave it maybe once every few months when the hair starts getting long.

I simply cut most with a pair of scissors and then finish it with the electric razor that I also use to shave.

I had thinning hair in my early twenties and started shaving with electric clippers then in the last few years switched over to razor. My head was always dry when using a razor and I used lotion to keep it moisturized.

I started playing around with different oils and scents and found the combo that worked well for me. After recently validating the product with many other bald headed internet friends I started up a business focused on bald headed guys that shave their heads.

I'm not sure why you are considering shaving your head, but if your hair is thinning then I would suggest go ahead and do it. It is one of the best decisions I made instead of trying to regrow or to try and hide it. The quicker you come to terms with it the better. Embrace your head and enjoy the freedom.

Since it is extremely Spammy and tacky to sign up for a new account and post about a business I'm not going to. If you want to check us out you can get the info in my profile.

I don't think so, nothing will going to happen just go for it. In fact after shaving it will give you thicker and longer hair.:)

By the way why you wanna shave your head?????
